Overview:
Northgreen Country Club in Rocky Mount, NC, is looking for a dedicated and hardworking Golf Course Grounds Keeper to join our team. The Grounds Keeper will be responsible for maintaining the appearance and health of our greens, fairways, tees, and other areas of the golf course. This individual will help ensure that the course is in pristine condition for golfers and that all maintenance tasks are performed efficiently and safely.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and care for the golf course grounds, including mowing, edging, and fertilizing the greens, fairways, tees, and roughs.
- Perform regular irrigation system maintenance to ensure proper watering of the course.
- Assist with aeration, seeding, topdressing, and other tasks to improve turf quality and course condition.
- Monitor and maintain soil health, adjusting pH levels, and applying treatments as needed.
- Assist with planting, pruning, and caring for trees, shrubs, and flowers throughout the course.
- Repair and maintain sand traps and bunkers, ensuring they are properly groomed and free from debris.
- Clean and maintain all course equipment, including mowers, tractors, and utility vehicles.
- Assist in pest and weed control by applying appropriate herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers as directed by management.
- Perform routine inspections of the golf course to identify areas requiring special attention or repair.
- Assist with the setup and preparation of the course for tournaments, events, and daily operations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the equipment storage areas and grounds maintenance facilities.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform general labor tasks such as hauling materials, loading/unloading equipment, and assisting with course improvement projects.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in grounds keeping, landscaping, or golf course maintenance is preferred.
- Knowledge of turf care, including mowing, fertilization, irrigation, aeration, and pest management.
- Familiarity with golf course equipment, including mowers, utility vehicles, and irrigation systems.
- Ability to operate small engine equipment, lawnmowers, and other tools safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to perform quality work.
- Basic knowledge of horticulture and turf management.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, such as bags of fertilizer or large equipment.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in turf management or horticulture is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license (required for operating course vehicles and equipment).
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to handle chemicals safely and follow guidelines for their application.
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in a physically demanding job.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and lifting for extended periods.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions, including heat, rain, and cold.
