Position Overview

Northmen Den Youth Services, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization in fulfilling its mission of supporting and serving local youth. The Executive Director (ED) will oversee all aspects of the organization’s operations, including strategic leadership, fundraising, financial management, board relations, human resources, program oversight, community engagement, and compliance.

This role requires a visionary leader with strong communication, organizational, and fundraising skills to ensure the sustainability and growth of Northmen Den Youth Services. The ED will report directly to the Board of Directors and will be responsible for carrying out the strategic goals of the organization.

About Northmen Den Youth Services

Northmen Den Youth Services is dedicated to nourishing students by providing food in a manner that respects dignity and individuality while sustaining dreams. We operate 15 school-based youth pantries aiming to empower middle and high school students in Emmet County.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leadership & Organizational Strategy

  • Serve as the primary representative of Northmen Den Youth Services, embodying its mission, vision, and values.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to align with organizational goals.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring program excellence, fiscal responsibility, and operational efficiency.
  • Foster a positive, mission-driven organizational culture and maintain strong relationships with staff, volunteers, and stakeholders.

2. Fundraising & Development

  • Lead all fundraising efforts to secure resources for ongoing programs and sustainability.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with major donors, grant-makers, corporate sponsors, and community partners.
  • Write and submit grants, secure sponsorships, and create donor engagement campaigns.
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy within the organization.

3. Board Relations & Development

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure effective governance and strategic oversight.
  • Provide accurate and timely information for decision-making and planning.
  • Assist in board recruitment, training, and engagement to strengthen organizational leadership.

4. Financial Management & Compliance

  • Oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and cash flow management to maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, including IRS requirements and audits.
  • Maintain transparency and accountability in financial decision-making.

5. Human Resources & Staff Development

  • Supervise, mentor, and support staff and volunteers to foster a high-performance team culture.
  • Ensure proper recruitment, onboarding, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Promote an inclusive and collaborative work environment.

6. Operations & Technology

  • Ensure efficient daily operations of the organization.
  • Oversee technology infrastructure to support fundraising, communication, and program management.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance organizational effectiveness.

7. Programming

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of programs to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission.
  • Work with staff and stakeholders to ensure programs are effective, impactful, and responsive to community needs.

8. Community Relations & Advocacy

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, government agencies, schools, businesses and students and families we serve.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson for Northmen Den Youth Services in public and media engagements.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships to expand the organization’s reach and impact.

9. Legal & Ethical Compliance

  • Ensure the organization complies with all federal, state, and local nonprofit regulations.
  • Implement policies and procedures to mitigate risk and uphold best practices.
  • Stay informed on legal and ethical responsibilities to protect the organization’s reputation and integrity.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Social Services, or a related field or equivelent in previous employement
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in a nonprofit or related sector.
  • Proven track record in fundraising, donor relations, and financial management.
  • Strong leadership, strategic planning, and organizational development skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Experience in budget management, human resources, and board relations.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience in youth services or related fields is highly desirable.
