- Set up and operate CNC machines, including lathes, mills, and other machining equipment, to manufacture large parts according to specifications
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine machining requirements
- Program and adjust machine settings, speeds, and feeds for optimal performance
- Conduct precision measurements using various tools and gauges to ensure accurate dimensions and tolerances
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of machines to ensure their efficient operation
- Collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize manufacturing processes and resolve technical issues
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Train and mentor junior machinists, providing guidance and sharing best practices
- Extensive experience as a machinist in a job shop or similar manufacturing environment, focusing on large-part machining
- Proficiency in operating CNC machines, including programming and setup
- Strong knowledge of machining techniques, tools, and materials
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
- Proficient in using precision measurement tools, such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
- Solid understanding of machining principles and cutting parameters
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot machining issues
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Prior experience with CAD/CAM software is a plus
