JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Behavior Technician (BT) provides clinical skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based on the principals of Applied Behavior Analysis to assigned student(s) in the classroom setting. The BT will collect data, implement the behavior plan, and other duties in coordination with the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved.

1. Provide direct care in 1-on-1 and group settings utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis programing.
2. Follow the prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols.
3. Collect, record, and summarize data on observable behavior.
4. Effectively communicate with classroom teacher and other staff as instructed by the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
5. Maintain student confidentiality.
6. Assist classroom staff and BCBA in providing skill acquisition to assigned student(s).
7. Prepare student materials as instructed.
8. Collaborate with student, parents, classroom staff, and BCBA on student intervention plans.
9. Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required trainings to maintain BT certification.
10. Performs other related duties as assigned.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the building Principal.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a classroom environment; students in these classrooms may have severe and profound physical and/or behavior disabilities that may present significant work challenges for the BT. May experience frequent interruptions; may be required to deal with distraught or angry students and parents. May be required to travel between schools. May be required to deal with students with severe behavioral disorders requiring de-escalation skills or physical restraint. May be required to assist students outside in inclement weather. Depending on the assignment, this type of work may involve lifting, re-positioning, toileting, tube-feeding and providing custodial care for students, requiring the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, or occasionally up to 50 pounds with assistance or using lifting devices. The position involves frequent walking, sitting, grasping, handling and manual dexterity.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

High school graduation or equivalent. Associate’s degree, or higher, preferred.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Willingness to learn about special education student disabilities, terms and special needs equipment used; Willingness to learn about classroom management techniques; ability to implement behavior intervention plans developed by the BCBA, track data, accept feedback, and work as a member of the IEP team; ability to work cooperatively with teachers and enjoy interacting with children; knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and English usage; ability to read, write, speak, and compute effectively; ability to work independently, ability to operate computers and learn specific software; ability to operate office equipment such as copiers and laminators; ability to be accepting of students with disabilities; demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to interact with children in a warm, confident manner; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the public.


Licenses/Special Requirements

Certified Registered Behavior Technician.
Requires reliable means of transportation and valid Washington State driver’s license.


SALARY
Salary is based upon the current 2023-24 ESP Salary Schedule Salary (Level II); placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA Non-Exempt.


WORK YEAR
7.0 hours per day, 192 days per year. These vacancies are anticipated to start on the 2025-26 School Year.
