Job Description:
The Radiation Oncology Department at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights has an opening for a Dosimetrist.
Under the direction of the Director of Medical Physics, this role is expected to perform all the functions of a Dosimetrist which include but are not limited to:
1. Following the dose prescription specified by the Radiation Oncologist, plans a treatment technique by means of modern treatment planning systems that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose to a defined tumor volume.
2. Providing integrated clinical care and supporting treatment planning and Dosimetry in all aspects of treatment modalities such as 3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, IGRT,SRS, SBRT, LDR, HDR brachytherapy and any future new modalities as required
3. Coordinating with all the disciplines within the Radiation Oncology department to provide the best care for our patients
4. Displaying a very good understanding of anatomy for various imaging modalities to contour normal structures and perform imaging fusions using MiM software
5. Demonstrating a good understanding of treatment planning systems currently utilized in clinic including Varian Eclipse, RaySearch RayStation, Varian Brachytherapy, Varian VariSeed and Accuray Precision
6. Prepares treatment devices such as custom blocks, tissue compensators and custom bolus as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist.
7. Understanding of dose calculation algorithms and Monitor Unit calculations accuracy for photon and electron beam fields
8. Communicates with the team regarding treatment plan implementation including patient setup, immobilization devices, bolus, compensators, wedges and field arrangements
9. Utilizes the charge codes accurately and appropriately by following departmental guidelines.
10. Attends weekly and monthly quality assurance meetings including 3D CRT Peer Review, Chart Rounds and QA Committee Meetings.
11. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to assess, treat and care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Implements assessment/treatment and care based on the developmental stages of the patient. Involves family/guardian in the plan of care and conducts patient and family education, as appropriate, considering the developmental needs of the patient.
12. Adheres to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies and procedures.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor of Science degree in physical or biological sciences and a minimum of two years of experience as a Medical Dosimetrist. New grads also eligible.
2. Certified or eligible for certification, by the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB)
3. Knowledge of and/or experience with SGRT, MiM, IMRT/VMAT, SRS, SBRT, IGRT
4. The analytical skills necessary to develop a patient's treatment plan based on the physicians assessment and use of modern treatment planning systems.
5. Good communication skills, team mentality, high level of initiative, dependability and motivated
6. The ability to monitor equipment for efficiency and safety.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Requires frequent periods of sitting with some standing and walking. Requires frequent lifting or moving of average weight material (instruments, equipment, etc.) and occasional assisting in the lifting and transferring of patients.
2. Flow of work and character of duties requires concentrated visual and mental attention performing complex tasks along with manual coordination for sustained periods.
