Position Overview
The Upper Elementary Minister is responsible for overseeing ministry to children from 3rd through 5th grade within the Children’s Ministry. This role involves developing age-appropriate programs, creating a safe and nurturing environment, and fostering the spiritual growth of 3rd through 5th graders. The Upper Elementary Minister will lead, train, and equip a team of volunteers dedicated to supporting the ministry's mission, partnering with families and the Children’s Ministry Pastor to ensure a cohesive, impactful experience for 3rd through 5th graders and their families.
Job Duties
- Program Development and Implementation
- Develop and implement ministry programs for 3rd through 5th grade children, aligning activities and teachings with Northside’s mission and values.
- Create engaging, age-appropriate lessons and experiences that foster spiritual growth and community-building among this age group.
- Collaborate with the Children’s Ministry Pastor to select, adapt, and implement curriculum tailored to the needs of this age group, with the ability to teach when necessary.
- Volunteer Leadership and Training
- Recruit, train, and equip volunteers to effectively serve in the Upper Elementary area, fostering a supportive and encouraging team environment.
- Provide clear direction, guidance, and ongoing support to volunteers, inspiring them to engage meaningfully with the children and ministry goals.
- Establish and maintain a consistent volunteer schedule, ensuring adequate support for all ministry activities.
- Safety and Inclusivity
- Maintain a secure and inclusive environment where children and parents feel welcome, safe, and able to explore their faith.
- Implement and uphold health, safety, and security protocols in line with Northside’s policies to protect children and volunteers in all ministry activities.
- Conduct regular safety training for volunteers, ensuring adherence to best practices for a secure ministry environment.
- Parent and Family Engagement
- Serve as a resource and support for parents, offering guidance, resources, and encouragement for their child’s spiritual journey.
- Organize informational sessions or resources to keep parents informed about ministry programs, upcoming events, and ways to reinforce teachings at home.
- Engage with families to build a supportive, family-focused ministry environment.
- Event Planning and Collaboration
- Work closely with the Children’s Ministry Team to coordinate ministry-wide events, ensuring alignment with the overall vision and mission of the Children’s Ministry.
- Continuous Improvement and Program Assessment
- Regularly assess and enhance ministry programs, incorporating feedback from families, volunteers, and church leadership.
- Identify opportunities for growth and improvement within the ministry and make strategic recommendations to the Children’s Ministry Pastor.
- Stay updated on best practices and trends in children’s ministry, implementing innovative approaches that enhance the ministry’s impact.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in theology, education, ministry, or a related field is preferred.
- 3 years of experience in a leadership role within children’s ministry, specifically focusing on elementary-aged children.
- Proven experience in program development, volunteer management, and curriculum selection.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong personal faith and alignment with the core values and mission of Northside (C3 Faithfulness as outlined below).
- Recruit, train and schedule volunteer teams as needed, with proven ability to lead, inspire, and manage those volunteers effectively.
- Help develop an annual ministry budget and be able to work within that budget.
- Participate in general pastoral duties as needed (weddings, funerals, counseling, Pastor on Call (POC), etc.)
- Prioritizes and manages multiple projects simultaneously, and follows through on issues in a timely manner.
- Passionate about the spiritual development of upper elementary-aged children, with a commitment to creating a positive, nurturing and safe environment.
- Excellent communication and relational skills, with the ability to engage positively with children, parents, volunteers, and church staff.
- Proficient with Mac, Google Suite, Planning Center, Rock Database, Asana, Slack.
- Assist in all church wide events (Christmas, Easter, Volunteer Appreciation Night, etc.).
