Position Description

 

 

POSITION TITLE:          Law and Public Safety Teacher

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:        Earned two-year college degree (associate degree) or higher from and accredited institution of higher education. The degree must be in Criminal Justice, Emergency Medicine (EMC), Political Science, Social Science, OR a two-year college degree or higher with documented completion of law enforcement training, emergency medicine training, fire academy training, or millitary training, or eighteen (18) hours of acceptable coursework with and earned grade of "C" or higher in the subject area to be taught.

 

REPORTS TO:              Principal and/or other Supervisor

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 days with benefits

 

                            

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Apply knowledge of law, law enforcement, and public safety to lead students to gain skills and understanding of the principles needed to pursue a career in law enforcement and/or public safety.

  2. Lead students to the acquisition industry recognized certifications in law enforcement and public safety.

  3. Make industry connections promoting service learning, cooperative education, and work-based learning opportunities for the students.

  4. Assist students as an advisor for student organization and particpation in law and public safety competitions.

  5. Recognize and respond appropriately to individual differences in students.

  6. Develop lesson plans and plans lessons in a logical sequence.

  7. Collaborate with other educators to create the most complete educational environment possible for students.

  8. Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLC).

  9. Administer group standardized tests as required.

  10. Using a variety of assessment techniques and/or models to evaluate student performance.

  11. Utilize technology and the devices as a tool in the teaching and learning process.
  12. Provide an environment that is safe, orderly, hazard-free and conducive to learning.
  13. Consistently implement approved disciplinatry actions to allow for effective instruction and classroom management.
  14. Relate to parents and other community members in a positive and helpful manner.
  15. Participate in school and district professional development in order to support school improvement and support student learning.
  16. Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  17. Enforce rules and regulations as stated in the teacher and student handbook.
  18. Adhere to policies and procedures established by district, state, and federal guidance.
  19. Maintain accurate and complete records.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:   

  1. Works effectively in groups and becomes a team player.
  2. Knowledge of current instructional software programs used in business education curriculum frameworks and ability to work with new software.
  3. Engages and motivaes students to do their best.
  4. Possesses adequate knowledge of their content area(s).
  5. Has the basic understanding of technology.
  6. Communicates with staff, students, parents and community effectively.
  7. Takes the initiative to be a continuous learner.
