Position Description
POSITION TITLE: Special Education Teacher (Self-Contained)
REPORTS TO: Principal, Special Services Director
QUALIFICATIONS:

Current state teaching certificate in Special Education (221)

Bachelor’s degree or higher
-
Positive interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated team building skills.

Knowledge of the Special Education process and laws.

Excellent organizational skills, oral and written skills, time management, and telephone skills.

Computer skills and knowledge of assistive technology are desired.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Teacher work calendar- 187 days
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provides research-bbased specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP.

Assist in the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Act, (IDEA) in accordance with district policies and procedures.

Supervise and coordinate special education programs, policies and diagnostic procedures.

Organize and ensure completion of all evaluation reports and IEPs.

Complete reviews of all special education IEP documents, ensuring compliance with District procedure, state, and federal laws; identifies areas of need within the areas of compliance and works to develop and implement programs to address those needs.

Provides direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.

Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises, or during school activities.

Work with principals, department heads and other team members to facilitate the integration of all students into regular classes as appropriate.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Assist in the preparation of federal, state and local reports on special education.

Collaborates and consults with educational professionals and community service providers (i.e. social services, public health, medical providers, etc.) regarding the needs of students.
- Attends meetings and training sessions related to special education as deemed appropriate by the Director of Special Services.
- Maintains confidentiality and non-judgmental views of children and families served.
- Performs any other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Director of Special Services or Superintendent.
