Summary: New Bedford Shannon is part of a statewide initiative funded by the MA Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. It is modeled after the Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention’s Comprehensive Gang Model; a multisector approach to address a community’s gang violence problem by focusing on the following five strategy areas: Social Intervention, Suppression, Opportunity Provision, Organizational Change and Community Mobilization. The initiative is designed to serve and support youth and young adults between the ages of ten and twenty-four who are living in an area identified as a “hot spot”, at elevated levels of risky behavior, including the risk of gang involvement. NBS Program provides culturally competent outreach and wrap-around case management services and supports to Shannon eligible youth, as well as outreach into hot spot neighborhoods, and responds to critical incidences of youth violence when needed. Youth are referred to the program by parents, schools, the courts, law enforcement and other organizations, as well as by the Programs Outreach/Case Workers themselves whose role it is to engage youth during their daily outreach into the community. The goal of NBS is to create positive outcomes and a safe environment for New Bedford at risk youth, their families, and the community.
The Data Specialist/Administrative Assistant is responsible for the timely collection and accurate entering of participant’s program data into the program’s database, as well as providing administrative support for the program. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and have a keen eye for detail. Responsibilities include all participant data entry, producing data reports and providing general administrative support to the program.

- Enter all program participants’ info and activities into a database.
- Handle all data requests
- As assigned, generate all program data reports.
- Work to increase the scope, timeliness and accuracy of program data by regularly monitoring what is being entered by case managers and report weekly findings to the Program Director.
- Assist in training new and existing staff on the data base and providing technical assistance to team members as needed.
- Serve as the program’s liaison to Shannon’s LARP regarding data questions and issues and troubleshooting and /or suggesting solutions regarding the program’s database needs.
- Greet and support visitors to the program.
- Create and maintain a monthly program activity calendar.
- Assist the Director in the planning of meetings, prepare agendas and take and distribute detailed minutes of meetings.
- Maintain contact lists for the program.
- As assigned, write correspondence memos, letters, faxes, and forms
- Assist the Director in the preparation of regularly scheduled program reports.
- Inventory and order office supplies and program materials.
- Serve as the program’s point of contact and liaison to NorthStar’s Administrative Office for inquiries and requests for such things as IT support and maintenance repair requests for the program’s copier and phones.
- Answer and direct phone calls.
Desired Knowledge and Qualification:
- Familiar with New Bedford and possess an understanding of the systemic and emerging issues facing at-risk and marginalized youth in our City.
- Program planning and service delivery experience.
- Experience utilizing and interpreting program data to make informed program decisions.
- Highly Organized – Strong Time Management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Requirements:
- Minimum education and experience: Minimum High School Graduate or Equivalent, Post HS education preferred.
- Licenses and certifications:
- Current certification in first aid and CPR preferred; certification within six months of employment required.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a registered and insured vehicle with the following minimum amounts of liability coverage: $100,000 injury per person; $300,000 injury per accident; and $5,000 property damage.
- Satisfactory criminal history background checks as determined by the agency.
- Evidence of compliance with agency and state health requirements.
