UA Specimen Collector Summary:
As a Specimen Collector at NorthStar Regional, you will play a vital role in the healthcare process by ensuring accurate and efficient specimen collection for our clients. The specimen collector provides support to the UA Lab Supervisor in collecting UA specimens in Otsego, Eden Prairie, Chaska, and Shakopee sites. Local travel on a weekly basis is required. This position is essential in supporting our mission of providing high-quality care to individuals seeking recovery from addiction and mental health issues.
UA Specimen Collector Responsibilities:
Greet clients professionally and ensure client privacy.
Transport samples and supplies to and from sites.
Ensure that all patient paperwork is filled out correctly and all necessary information has been captured at the time of collection (including Ordering Physician, Ordered Tests, Patient Signature, Date, etc.).
Adhere to all Laboratory Collector protocols, procedures and requirements.
Utilize appropriate laboratory practices in handling specimens, requisitions, chain of custody.
Dress according to clinic requirements (closed toe, laboratory safe shoes).
Data entry into patient Electronic Health Records, fax, scan, copying of documents as necessary.
Monitor and maintain supplies for laboratory needs and communicate supply requests in a timely manner.
Conduct self in an ethical, legal, responsible manner at all times with both patients and clinic staff.
Ensure that all client paperwork is filled out correctly and all necessary information has been captured at the time of collection (including Ordering Physician, Ordered Tests, Client Signature, Date, etc.).
Adhere to legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements
Adherence to NorthStar Regional’s confidentiality policy and laboratory policies
Continuous maintenance and improvement of Organizational and Therapeutic Culture: Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Spirituality, Excellence (R.A.I.S.E!)
Other duties as assigned
UA Specimen Collector Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old
Must have High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Competent to work effectively, both in an independent manner and in a team setting
Must have excellent organization skills and attention to detail
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to read, write and comprehend English.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables and situations.
Must be comfortable working with specimens (urine, oral fluids).
Must be a self-motivated, reliable, and independent worker.
Driver’s license, good driving record, and reliable transportation (mileage to be reimbursed when NSR vehicle is not available for use)
Ability to be on NSR auto insurance, no driving infractions in last 5 years
Consent to background check and be cleared by DHS to work within a human services program at all sites on all company licenses
Ability to handle stressful situations in a professional manner
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and boundaries
Ability to adhere to NSR Mission, Vision, and Values
Must be free from problematic chemical use including strict adherence to NSR’s drug free workplace policy.
Comply with all 245G/245I/245F, MN Statute 148F.165, all other governance statutes as applicable & all program policies and procedures including Client Needs, and acknowledge understanding of Client Rights, per MN Rule 31, part 4747.1500.
Must be able to demonstrate flexibility in work hours and responsibilities to accommodate team members' scheduling needs or unexpected situations.
