Job Summary :
Under the direction of the Sterile Processing Manager, the supervisor will plan, prepare, coordinate and supervise the daily activities in the sterile processing department while acting as a liaison with other departments to ensure a safe and sterile work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities :
Plan, organize, and oversee daily operations within the department.
Collaborate and act as a liaison with reps and other departments to support and facilitate safe and effective patient care.
Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and testing is properly documented.
Supervise the sterilization of medical equipment and other department items.
Develop, implement and maintain policies and procedures for processing storage and handling of instruments and SPD equipment, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulations.
Monitor workflow and prioritize work assignments.
Ensure accurate and proper inventory of instruments and equipment within the department.
Coordinate orientation and training of new members of the department.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience :
Required
Has successfully passed a nationally accredited central service exam for central service technicians; and holds and maintains one of the following credentials administered by a nationally accredited central service technician credentialing organization :
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT)
or a substantially equivalent credential
High school graduate or equivalent
Minimum two years' experience as a surgical instrument technician
The candidate must demonstrate ability to collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.
Previous ambulatory surgery experience is preferred.
Strong ethical and moral character references.
Supervisor, management, or leadership experience preferred.
Physical / Mental Requirements
Ability to sit / stand for a considerable amount of time; ability to walk.
Visual and auditory acuity for frequent use of computer, telephone, and occasional use of other office equipment.
Ability to perform occasional overhead and low reaching.
Physical strength required for equipment needs and patient-care activities.
Visual and auditory acuity for timely responsiveness and patient-care assessment activities.
Ability to move quickly in response to center needs.
Constant and frequent judgment and response.
Occasional judgment and response to disasters or emergencies, actual events, or drills.
Working Conditions (Environmental)
Well-lit and ventilated, with non-hazardous and hazardous equipment.
Category I : involves occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious body fluids and materials.
Exposure to possible injury when working with electrical equipment which requires care and following proper safety procedures.
Normal peri-operative environment with exposure to chemical odors, cleaning solvents and other hazardous materials. Must follow established procedures to ensure safety.
