High School Biology/Chemistry Teacher
Job Summary:
The High School Biology or Chemistry Teacher will be responsible for teaching biology and/or chemistry courses to students in grades 9-12, including both standard and Advanced Placement (AP) biology and chemistry classes. A strong background in biology and/or chemistry, a passion for teaching, and the ability to inspire students to develop an understanding and appreciation for biology and/or chemistry.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Science, and/or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Michigan teaching certification in secondary education with endorsements in biology or chemistry (DA or DC).
Experience:
- Previous teaching experience in high school biology/chemistry and Advanced Placement biology/chemistry preferred.
- Proven ability to develop and implement engaging lesson plans and effective teaching strategies.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of biology and/or chemistry principles and the ability to teach complex concepts in an understandable manner.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in using technology and lab equipment in the classroom.
- Ability to manage a classroom effectively and create a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development and Instruction:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum for standard and AP biology/chemistry courses that meets state and national standards.
- Prepare and deliver engaging lessons that facilitate active learning and cater to a diverse range of learning styles and abilities.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies and resources to effectively teach complex concepts in biology and/or chemistry.
- Incorporate technology and hands-on experiments to enhance the learning experience.
Student Assessment and Evaluation:
- Design and administer assessments, including quizzes, tests, projects, and lab reports, to evaluate student understanding and progress.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents regarding academic performance and areas for improvement.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student grades, attendance, and other required documentation.
Classroom Management:
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages belonging, respect, responsibility, and a passion for learning.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.
- Address and resolve student behavioral issues in accordance with school policies.
Professional Development and Collaboration:
- Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in biology/chemistry education and AP curriculum.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share resources, strategies, and support for student success.
- Participate in department meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school-related events as required.
Student Support and Engagement:
- Provide additional support and tutoring for students needing extra help in understanding biology/chemistry concepts.
- Encourage and facilitate student participation in science fairs, competitions, and other extracurricular activities related to biology/chemistry.
- Serve as a mentor and role model, fostering a love for science and encouraging students to pursue STEAM-related careers.

- This position follows the terms and benefits outlined in the Northview Education Collective Bargaining Agreement and is evaluated by the building administration.
