Job Description
Job Responsibility
* Collaborates with members of the health care team in coordinating and implementing plans for patient care. May record patient past medical history for primary RN's review.
* Performs measurement and screening procedures according to protocol which may include but is not limited to height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and vision testing. Records and plots findings on patient chart.
* Collects blood specimens and assists physician or nurse in collection of blood specimens as required. Completes requisitions, labels and routes specimens according to standard procedure.
* Collects urine specimens. Records intake and output on patients' charts. May perform throat cultures, and buccal smears as directed. Completes requisitions, labels and routes specimens according to standard procedure.
* Performs electrocardiograms in accordance with physician orders, when requested.
* Assists physicians and nurses with special procedure and examinations including but not limited to L.P., pelvic exam, etc. Secures supplies, ensures patient is properly undressed and draped, provides instruments to physicians, holds patient as required and assists patient after examination, measures crutches and instructs patients in walking techniques.
* Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stocks assigned rooms and cupboards and insures that par levels of supplies are maintained on a daily basis.
* Insures that all data collected for procedures performed is recorded clearly and accurately on appropriate forms and in medical records.
* Checks and records all E.D equipment daily and reports broken equipment to nursing management.
* Checks and records daily; all special procedure carts (i.e.: CAPD, Sigmoidoscope, Burn Cart, OD Cart, Isolation, Respiratory).
* Performs closed chest massage Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) by hand or mechanical CPR device (Thumper) as required.
* Performs duties related to Post-mortem care and transport of body to morgue, when required.
* Applies MAST suit, under direction of MD and/or RN, and responsible for maintenance of the suit, when required.
Performs related duties, as required.
*ADA Essential Functions
Job Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Successful completion of a six (6) month to one (1) year course in Medical Assisting at an accredited school OR equivalent medical training with Emergency Department experience in drawing blood and performing EKG's.
Successful completion of a Basic Life Support course within one (1) year of employment.
Ability to communicate effectively required.
