What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transporter position at Northwell Careers?
Transports patients to and from various units as directed, safely and comfortably. Picks up and delivers materials and/or equipment as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Transports patients in wheel chairs or on stretchers to and from various units as directed.
- Responds to page promptly.
- Uses proper body mechanics during transfer and transport.
- Transports patients using wheelchairs or stretchers, as directed.
- Notifies staff upon arrival of patients.
- Reports any changes of patient’s condition during transport to charge nurse.
- Ensures proper height is kept on I.V. set-up when transporting patient.
2. Promotes and maintains cleanliness and effective functioning of transport equipment.
- Reports defective wheelchairs and stretchers to Supervisor.
- Cleans transportation equipment.
3. Picks up and delivers materials as directed within the Hospital promptly and accurately.
4. Performs related duties as required.

Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
- One (1) year experience in a medical setting, preferred.
- Good communication skills-fluent in English.
- Physical demand are constant walking, standing, stooping, bending, turning, lifting; Frequent stretching, pulling, pushing; Occasional sitting.
