This is a 12-month, full-time, reporting to the Director of Digital Learning. The Instructional Designer works closely with the Academic units to develop, evaluate, and update digital course content for NWACC.

The Instructional Designer plays a critical role in enhancing the quality of digital course content to improve knowledge and skill attainment for our learners. Leveraging tested research and common best practices, this position supports faculty in reviewing, designing, and implementing digital course materials and technologies that lead to measurable student success. Additionally, the Instructional Designer provides faculty training and development and supports the college's learning management system (LMS) and related educational technologies.

This is an onsite position.

  • Provide advisement and technical support for the design and development of content using instructional design strategies in various technology-enabled delivery formats.
  • Host in-person and virtual meetings to fully address faculty needs and requests for assistance with new system adoptions, textbook changes, etc.
  • Research emerging trends and technologies related to best practices in teaching and learning.
  • Develop of workshops, webinars, instructional documents and recordings covering best practices in teaching and learning with educational technologies.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for the college's learning management system and various educational technologies.
  • Work with vendors to manage upgrades and resolve technical issues with our supported educational technology systems.
  • Administrate and support the Canvas Catalog marketplace system.
  • Participate in the development of the department's long-term vision and strategic planning.
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Rate of Pay : $51,193 annualized

Demonstrated ability to design, create and deliver digital content and instructional materials using appropriate development tools, and to train and lead others in these endeavors.

Ability to build relationships with individuals and teams across the institution.

Ability to tactfully respond to complex or difficult inquiries or complaints.

Strong customer service skills with empathy and patience being first and foremost.

Knowledge of system administration of a learning management system [Canvas].

Knowledge of accessibility guidelines related to digital educational materials.

Ability to read, analyze, and understand academic and technical documents.

Strong time management, multi-tasking, and organizational skills.

Ability to analyze information and recommend appropriate action.

Knowledge of higher education structure and practices.

    The work environment typically consists of a professional office setting with a moderate noise level, including sounds from conversations, office equipment, and occasional movement of staff. Employees may occasionally need to visit other areas, such as storage rooms, conference spaces, or outdoor locations, where environmental conditions may vary. Infrequently, exposure to louder noise levels or physical activities, such as moving lightweight materials, might be required.

    Minimum Requirements

    Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design or related education and / or experience may be substituted for degree requirements.

    Course content, workshop materials, or training artifacts to showcase demonstrated abilities during the interview.
