Airport Security Officer

JOB PURPOSE: Responsible for the surveillance of Airport premises and protection of staff and visitors. Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations and normally consists of patrol, detecting suspicious behavior and preventing vandalism, theft, or other criminal behavior. Work involves an element of personal danger, and officers must be able to act without direct supervision and exercise good judgment during a work shift. General and special instructions and work assignments are received from the Police Department Captain or Chief of Police.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Monitor and authorize entrance of vehicles or people on the property.
• Perform routine inspections of people and property as they enter and exit the property.
• Perform scheduled and random checks of designated areas throughout the facility to check for any security breaches. Secure exits and doors during operations.
• Respond to alarms by investigating and assessing the situation.
• Investigates accidents and suspected criminal activity and makes required reports to be filed with appropriate agencies.
• Provide assistance to those in need, including the traveling public or public safety officers as needed. Assist Maintenance staff in securing an area during a maintenance emergency.
• Provide reports daily of surveillance activity and important occurrences.

REQUIREMENTS:

o Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D

o Must be 18 years of age

o Must be an American citizen

o Must possess a valid driver’s license

o No felony convictions

o No misdemeanor convictions for domestic battery

o Must pass drug screening

o Must possess previous experience with telephone or radio communications operations; or equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills

o Knowledge of and skill in the operations of telephone, radio and alarm communications equipment.

o Ability to learn the operation of computer terminals and related information systems equipment

o Ability to keep records in an organized manner

o Ability to work with the public in a courteous manner in response to complaints or requests for service

o Ability to understand/carry out or give oral and written instructions, including the ability to read and interpret simple plans and specifications

o Must be available to work shifts as required or assigned by the Chief of Police.

SECURITY - Requires the ability to pass a security background check. The Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport is a drug free workplace. This position is a safety sensitive position as defined in Ark. Const. Amend. 98, § 2(25). Persons employed in this position may not use marijuana at any time or any place.

MENTAL - Requires normal attention

PHYSICAL –Requires the ability to pass a medical screening, good physical condition and sufficient strength to do lifting and carrying as required

ENVIRONMENTAL - Requires capability of performing essential job functions in a constantly changing environment and exposure to outdoor environments and all weather conditions

MANUAL DEXTERITY - Requires using hands, arms and/or feet for performing essential job functions such as foot patrol, maintaining required equipment, using a portable radio, driving a vehicle and operating public safety equipment

AUDIBLE - Requires ability to understand and follow oral instructions or instructions issued via the police radio

VISUAL - Requires the ability to read documentation, perform inspections and drive a vehicle.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
