Job Title: Commercial Credit Analyst


Reports To: Chief Credit Officer


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt


Starting/Hiring Wage: $40,000 - $57,500 annually


Full Wage Range: $40k - $75k annually - Midpoint and above is reserved for employees who have longevity with Northwest Business Development and consistently exhibit outstanding performance over a period of time in the role.


JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for processing new SBA 504 loan applications. This includes spreading and analyzing financial information, screening for SBA eligibility, and ensuring proper completion of key forms submitted to SBA.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain an organized loan file, communicate needs lists effectively to Business Development Officer (BDO), and be responsible for ensuring all pending items are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Understand key eligibility and analysis components relating to SBA 504 lending by utilizing SBA’s Standard Operating Procedures and NWBDA’s Credit Policies and Procedures / Operations Manual when making decisions.
  • Input loan data into the loan software utilized by the company for electronic loan application submission to SBA.
  • Spread financial statements and tax returns and analyze the results, which include constructing a written narrative of key risk factors and findings. Ensure proper calculation of debt service coverage when assessing a borrower’s ability to repay the loan.
  • Assist with annual loan risk ratings, which involve spreading financials and recommending risk rating changes.
  • Assist all departments with various tasks relating to each stage of the loan process.
  • Respond timely to and file emails within the shared Processing Inbox.
  • Accurately prepare loan forms including but not limited to the SBA Authorization (draft), and SBA Form 1244.
  • Scan or save all loan file documentation and correspondence in BMI (electronic document management system).
  • Review and submit appraisal reports to SBA for approval.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide back-up assistance for Junior Credit Analyst and Loan Assistant as needed on pre-application submission items, including but not limited to environmental reports, franchise agreements, INS clearances, and Form 912 clearances.
  • Make recommendations to NWBDA Chief Credit Officer for procedural changes to promote efficiencies within the company.
  • Attempt to attend all meetings where your presence is requested by management.
  • Attempt to attend all training classes / webinars provided by NWBDA that will benefit your current or future positions with NWBDA.
  • Assist with other requests or duties as requested by management.
  • Comply with all Northwest Business Development Association’s policies and procedures and operations manuals.

The ideal candidate:

    Minimum Education &/or Experience

    • High school diploma and a minimum of 2 years on-the-job experience in commercial credit analysis OR a minimum of 3 years on-the-job experience in credit analysis in an area other than commercial lending.
    • Previous lending experience in the area of Credit Analysis and/or SBA Standard Operating Procedures is preferred.


    Other Skills & Abilities

    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Experience with financial spread software and SBA 504 Software Ventures is desirable. Ability to acclimate quickly to other programs.


    Language Skills

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to create comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present complex information succinctly and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


    Mathematical Skills

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to create, interpret and explain spreadsheet analysis.


    Reasoning Ability

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with complex problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    This position is sedentary and requires the following physical activities:

    • Sitting for long periods of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing and visual acuity.
    • Frequent lifting (up to 25 pounds of paper supplies or minor office equipment).


    GENERAL BENEFIT DESCRIPTION:

    • Full time employees are covered by medical, dental, vision and life insurance.
    • Employees are immediately eligible to enroll in and contribute to the company's 403(b) retirement plan and are eligible for a discretionary employer match (100% up to $5k Annually) the month following their six month anniversary.
    • Full time employees will also accrue vacation at the rate of 3.08 hrs/pay period for a maximum of 10 days in the first year of employment.
    • Full time employees receive 12 paid holidays throughout the calendar year in addition to a number of 1/2 days the day before some major holidays.
    • Employees earn 1.384 hours of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked.
    • Full time employees earn 2 hours of PTO per month in addition to vacation and sick leave.
    • Upon successful performance of both the employee and the company there is potential for an annual bonus. **This position is not eligible for per-file bonus/commissions.

    Office environment.
