Daily Living Skills Educator Job Description
The Daily Living Skills (DLS) Educator focuses on teaching children and adolescents with disabilities essential everyday tasks and skills needed for independent living including, but not limited to, cooking, hygiene, money management, and social interaction. Their primary goal is to help clients develop the practical abilities needed to navigate daily life.
Daily Living Skills Educator Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend the initial meeting with family to develop client’s Daily Living Skills Plan
- Meet with the assigned clients and their families weekly to provide skills training and education on areas of improvement identified during the initial assessment
- Understand and implement the Daily Living Skills Plan
- Document each session with assigned client as required by established documentation standards and submit documentation in a timely and consistent manner
- Develop an understanding of your client’s abilities, development, strengths, and needs
- Build and maintain rapport with clients and families
- Addressing behavioral challenges by managing disruptive behaviors that may arise during skill development and implementing strategies to promote positive interactions
- Present yourself in a professional manner when representing Northwest Community Partners
- If providing transportation to clients, the DLS Educator is personally responsible for abiding by all state traffic rules and regulations and following agency transportation policies and procedures
- Complete all required initial and ongoing trainings as required
- Maintain client confidentiality
- Communicate clearly in oral and written form
- Other duties as assigned
Rate of Pay
$21/hour for direct service hours, $14/hour for training hours
Requirements:Minimum Qualifications
- Possess some educational knowledge of children and adolescents with disabilities
- Possess some experience working with children and adolescents with disabilities
- Patience, empathy, and positive attitude

- Knowledge of guidelines for ethical and professional conduct

Special Requirements:
- Must be a licensed driver and have access to an insured vehicle if transporting clients
