Job Summary:
The Shop Assistant supports the day-to-day operations of the shop by handling materials, ensuring organization and cleanliness. This role includes transporting materials to and from vendors/customers, assisting with inventory counts, restocking supplies, and maintaining the shop area. The Shop Assistant also supports freight deliveries and fleet management and helps ensure shop safety and organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Material Handling
- Pick up orders from vendors and deliver them to the shop or job sites.
- Process returns by delivering them back to the vendor.
- Pull and stage materials in the shop for job orders.
- Restock materials returned from job sites back into shop inventory.
- Restock material bins with backstock supplies.
Shop Cleanliness and Organization
- Sweep floors daily and mop 1-2 times weekly to maintain shop cleanliness.
- Organize bins and shelves to ensure a tidy workspace.
- Assist in organizing materials on pallets and upper racks, including moving pallets with a forklift.
Inventory and Deliveries
- Assist in monthly and quarterly shop inventory counts.
- Receive and stage materials from freight deliveries using a forklift.
Tool and Equipment Management
- Order tools for employees as needed.
- Operate forklift for material handling.
- Manage fleet maintenance and scheduling.
- Set up alarm codes for employees.
Fleet Management
- Manage the scheduling and maintenance of company vehicles.
- Transport vehicles to the shop for regular maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
- Ensure vehicle logs are updated and maintained.
- Coordinate vehicle availability for job site requirements.
Alarm and Security
- Set up alarm codes for employees.
Qualifications:
- Ability to operate a forklift (certification preferred).
- Familiarity with inventory processes and material handling.
- Basic organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move heavy materials.
- Comfortable working in various environments, including warehouses and job sites.
