Northwest Florida Community Hospital (NFCH), in Chipley, FL, is seeking a FT experienced, energetic and dedicated Medical Billing Specialist to join our growing Business Office!
General Summary:
- Responsible for all activities in the Hospital accounts receivable function.
- Manages billing and collection activities such as sending follow-up inquiries, negotiating with past due accounts, and referring accounts to collection agencies.
- Maintains accurate records.
- Audits methods and procedures of accounts receivable function to improve efficiency and cash flow.
- Ensure maximum cash collection and consistent cash flow.
- Accurately and timely submit medical claims to insurance companies and other payers.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for medical procedures.
- Review and analyze medical records to ensure appropriate coding of diagnoses and procedures.
- Resolve billing issues with insurance companies and other payers.
- Follow up on unpaid claims and resubmit claims as necessary.
- Work closely with other departments, such as medical coding and billing, to ensure accurate and timely billing processes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient and billing records in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients and other stakeholders.
- Keep abreast of changes in medical billing regulations and ensure compliance with these changes.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree in medical billing or a related field is preferred
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing and coding
- Strong knowledge of medical billing codes and regulations, including ICD-10 and CPT codes
- Familiarity with medical billing software and systems, such as Epic and Meditech
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures
- Understanding of insurance and reimbursement procedures
- Certification in medical billing and coding is a plus
Experience:
- Experience in healthcare billing, coding, and receivables preferred. Work record that demonstrates in-depth knowledge of healthcare billing and reimbursement, knowledge of medical terminology, negotiating skills, and knowledge of hospital industry financial statistical information.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
- Principles and practices of patient accounting, insurance reimbursement, governmental and other payer source billing, credit and collections, cashiering and admitting. Knowledge of functions, capabilities and operation of computer-based billing and patient accounts management systems.
- Requires sufficient knowledge in the use of basic computer software. Must use software to develop spreadsheets for analytical purposes.
