Hydrologist I

Job Location: Headquarters - Midway, FL Located 10 miles west of Tallahassee on Hwy. 90

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in hydrology, geology, civil/environmental engineering, limnology, ecology, environmental science, or other water resources related field. Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license. Competency with hydrologic and/or hydrogeologic principles related to surface and groundwater systems.

Special Abilities:

Working knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of basic statistics and data analysis is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently under supervision and to work cooperatively in a team environment. Coursework in hydrology, hydrogeology, statistics, GIS, or water chemistry required. Familiarity with water resources of northwest Florida preferred.

Description:

This is a full-time entry level professional position with the purpose of protecting, restoring and preserving the ground and surface water resources of the District for reasonable beneficial uses and protection of natural systems. Responsibilities involve work in surface and groundwater hydrology, field studies, hydrologic data review and assessment, floodplain management, environmental flows evaluations, springs investigations, and other water resources evaluations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviews, analyzes, and compiles hydrologic and water quality datasets to assist with water resource investigations, including but not limited to water budgets, statistical analyses, water chemistry analyses, rainfall/runoff processes, hydrologic or hydraulic modeling, and groundwater flow modeling.
  • Performs tasks in support of stormwater management, watershed hydrology and restoration, water supply assessment, flood control, water resources restoration, and emergency management.
  • Plans and participates in field studies, such as hydrologic data collection, water quality sampling and analysis, springs investigations, storm event response, flooding evaluations, and other water resource investigations;
  • Review, perform QA/QC, and enter hydrologic, geologic, water use, and water quality data into District databases.
  • Assists in the preparation of tables, figures, maps, analysis, and technical reports;
  • Promotes teamwork across Divisions, Bureaus and Programs and provides superior customer service to the citizens of Florida.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Pay: From $45,822.40 per year
