Role & Responsibilities
- Work cooperatively with Northwest Health Services (NHS) providers and personnel to carry out the goals and objectives of NHS according, to governing body requirements and established internal policies and procedures.
- Treat others respectfully whether it is a patient, fellow employee, member of management, customer, vendor or visitor to our premises.
- Utilize the billing system to systematically follow up on past due accounts.
- Cooperate with billing personnel to monitor patient account balances.
- Review accounts for possible assignment to collections or pre-collections, make recommendations for assignment to Billing Manager, and process approved write-offs.
- Prepare Medicare bad debt logs and Medicare bad debt recovery logs for annual audit.
- Process bad debt payments received and update with collection agency.
- Work patient bankruptcies and patient AR balances.
- Work returned mail and correct bad addresses.
- Process returned checks. Northwest Health Services Inc.
- Run weekly electronic and manual statements.
- Process patient credit card payments from lockbox and phone calls.
- Run itemized statements for lawyers office and patients when requested.
- Contact patients for additional insurance information when required.
- Assist patients and NHS staff with billing questions and/or concerns.
- Assist with incoming calls relating to billing questions and answer or direct to the appropriate NHS staff for assistance.
- Must comply with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.
- Perform related work as required.
Education & Experience
- Possess high school diploma or equivalent.
- Have a minimum of one year in collections practices preferred.
- Must possess ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, and other individuals encountered in the course of employment.
- Must demonstrate basic computer skills.
- Possess light typing skills. Must demonstrate accuracy, proficiency, and efficiency.
- Must possess knowledge of governmental legal and regulatory provisions related to collection activities.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License, and proof of insurance for personal vehicle used for business.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be able to talk, see, hear, react, stand, kneel, walk and sit for long periods of time.
- Must speak concisely with a pleasant phone voice; demonstrate tact, patience and good communications skills in dealing with patients and staff.
- Possess cognitive skills necessary to read, analyze, and interpret a variety of instructions, policies, and procedures furnished in written and or oral form.
- Must demonstrate tact patience and good communication skills.
- Must respect and maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Maintain professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
