Described Duties:
1. Work cooperatively with Northwest Health Services (NHS) providers, supervisors, and personnel to carry out the goals and objectives of NHS according to governing body requirements and established internal policies and procedures.
2. Treat others respectfully whether it is a patient, fellow employee, member of management, customer, vendor or visitor to our premises.
3. Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls with patients, customers, provider offices, hospitals, insurance companies, drug wholesaler, etc. Handle incoming and outgoing faxes regarding prescriptions, Prior Authorization, etc.
4. Ability to navigate and understand the POS (Point of Sale) computer system. Perform all cash register processes. Perform payment on account, voids, refunds, transaction retrieval, delivery posting, reconciliation of transaction, Pseudoephedrine tracking process, electronic signature capture for drugs dispensed, etc.
5. Receive patient demographics, prescription insurance, medical conditions and allergies, accurately entering all information into computer system.
6. Receive all forms of new prescription and refill prescription requests and enter into the computer system for processing of insurance claim, cash/discount pricing, prescription labeling and patient information sheets regarding prescribed medication.
- Ability to identify correct medication and distinguish the usage of regular stock vs 340B stock drugs. Perform mathematical calculations required for correct dosage of tablets/capsules, ointment/creams and solutions. Ability to convert between metric and apothecary equivalents. Perform reject resolutions with insurance companies.
- Perform reversals and voids.
- Resubmission of corrected claims.
- Prepare Prior Authorization request for provider. Contact provider for verification of information when necessary. Contact provider for alternative treatment when necessary.
- EZ off cap logging.
- Return to stock process.
7. Must be able to count, pour and mix appropriately per prescription order. Package and label appropriately with pertinent documents for approval by the Pharmacist prior to dispensing to the patient.
8. Processing medication for Nursing Home dispensing into Unit Dose packaging with all required information, record tracking information prior to delivery. Processing of home delivery and mail out prescriptions to patients/customers.
9. Assist customers with OTC items, special order items, price quotes, questions regarding non-prescription inquiries and identify those who need counseling from the Pharmacist on medications, medical devices and equipment 10. Input, monitor and update prescriber file as needed.

11. Assist in monitoring drug therapy and with Medication Therapy Management services as directed by the Pharmacist. Assist in daily ordering of prescription medications and OTC items. Ability to see and evaluate cost efficiency for the pharmacy and the customer.
12. Constant monitoring and evaluation of 340B vs regular stock option when appropriate. Search for appropriate replacement when a drug is no longer available. Monitor brand name medications for new generic equivalent.
13. Assist with receiving, pricing and shelving daily order.
14. Clean pharmacy equipment, utensils and work areas. This includes, but is not limited to, wiping counters, cleaning the restroom, dusting furniture, shelving and merchandise. Vacuuming and mopping. Change trash, washing windows and cleaning customer area. Fill supplies, medications and packaging. Shelf straightening. Relaying shelves as needed.
15. Emergency after hours OTC sales.
16. Attend required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
17. Participate in staff development and educational activities.
18. Maintain patient confidentiality.
19. Must comply with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996
20. Perform related work as required.
21. Assist with inventory control.
- Bi-monthly shelf sweeps of prescription and OTC for the monitoring of medications that are slow moving and/ expired or nearing expiration.
- Initiate return process for medication being returned to the wholesaler for credit. Removal of expired for quarantine for Manager to process for write off and destruction.
- Process drug recalls as needed.
- Assist with monthly 340B medication audits when needed. Assist with annual inventory of all classes of medications.
- Assist with annual inventory of supplies.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Must be able to talk, see, hear, react, stand, kneel, walk and lift up to 50 lbs.
2. Possess cognitive skills necessary to read and interpret prescription information, understand and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
3. Possess knowledge of pharmaceutical and related medical technology, metric and apothecary systems of weights and measurements.
4. Possess knowledge of prescription drugs and the dispensing function to check for correctness. Possess knowledge of use and side effects of prescription and non-prescription drugs.
5. Possess knowledge of medical safety standards to manufacture and work with pharmaceutical substances.
6. Possess skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
7. Must demonstrate tact, patience, ethical conduct and good communications skills in dealing with patients and office staff.
8. Must insure confidentiality of all records and accounts.
9. Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
10. Must have the ability to follow all rules set forth by the Missouri State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, BNDD, etc. Must adapt to ever changing pharmacy law, statutes and guidelines, constant changes with insurance claims filing and software programs.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
1. Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License, and proof of insurance for personal vehicle used for business.
2. Graduate of an accredited high school or GED. One year of pharmacy experience preferred.
3. Required to become a registered technician with the Missouri State Board of Pharmacy upon hire.
4. Must demonstrate basic computer skills.
5. Possess light typing skills and computer knowledge. Must possess ability to perform basic arithmetical computations and use calculator. Must demonstrate accuracy, proficiency, and efficiency.
6. Must possess ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, and other individuals encountered in the course of employment.
