CRISIS INTERVENTION SPECIALIST
Location: Salem OR 97304
Night Shift Differential: $2.50
Sign-on Bonus: (night shift) $1000 (Internal candidates that are currently employed here at NWHS are not eligible for a sign-on bonus.)
Referral Bonus: (night shift) $500 (Referral bonus’ expire at the close of this job posting)
Northwest Human Services (NWHS) is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our Crisis & Information Hotline Team. This vital role within our 24/7 program offers immediate crisis intervention, resources, and support to individuals in urgent need. As a Crisis Intervention Specialist, you’ll play a key role in helping individuals navigate some of their most challenging moments. By providing immediate, life-affirming support, you’ll empower clients to regain stability and connect them to critical mental health resources and services.
Shifts: Shifts are determined by call volume trends and operational needs.
Shift Types: This position is part of a 24/7 program, and coverage is needed across all hours. Shifts may include:
- Day Shift: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Swing Shift (Afternoon/Evening): 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- Night Shift (Overnight): 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM
- Weekend and Holiday Shifts as needed
- On-Call or Rotating Schedules may apply based on team needs
YOUR ROLE:
Crisis Intervention Specialists provide 24-hour crisis intervention, suicide prevention, risk assessment, and brief supportive counseling over the phone to clients who are experiencing emotional distress, suicidal ideation, and/or seeking information on available mental health services. The Crisis and Information Hotline answers all calls made to 988 in Marion and Polk counties and acts as after-hours crisis support for multiple community partners. Crisis Intervention Specialists provide crisis intervention, risk assessment screening, safety planning, follow-up support, and advocacy based on client's assessed needs. Candidates must be eligible to obtain/maintain a QMHA-R level certification. (Certifications - MHACBO)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or behavioral health sciences field, or combination of at least three years relevant work, education, training, or experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of an integrated team.
- Demonstrated ability to use appropriate problem-solving and decision-making skills while working with individuals who may be very escalated or experiencing acute crisis.
- Understanding of Trauma-Informed Care models.
- Demonstrated ability to practice self-reflection
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Work some holidays and weekends.
- Remote work may be required, but this is not a fully remote position.
- Due to the nature of the position, there are no scheduled lunch breaks. As a 24/7 program, the role requires flexibility in managing breaks and meals during shifts. Employees are expected to remain on-call for client support throughout their shift.
