Primary Purpose:
The Audiologist offers direct audiological services to eligible students enrolled in NISD. Their primary goal is to ensure that students have access to appropriate hearing assistive technology, enabling them to access auditory information and thereby enhancing their academic performance.
Minimum Requirements:
- Doctorate of Audiology or equivalent
- Texas Licensure in Audiology
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Previous educational audiological experience (3 years minimum)
- Experience fitting amplification, performing audiological and functional evaluations
- Knowledge of special education and 504
- Knowledge of child development/speech and language acquisition, and auditory milestones
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Knowledge of ARD process and IEP development and implementation
- Knowledge of resources available through the district and in the community in support of auditory needs
- Ability to demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skill
Majors Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide consultation to other evaluation team members on effective and appropriate assessment techniques for use with students with hearing impairments.
- Evaluate, select, program, troubleshoot, and fit Hearing Assistive Technology (HAT)
- Perform audiological evaluations for students
- Collaborate with classroom teachers regarding communication management, educational implications of hearing loss, educational programming, classroom acoustics, and large-area amplification systems for children with hearing loss
- Develop a system for documenting audiological case management
- Monitor equipment functionality and submit repairs of HAT as needed
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with HAT vendors
- Provide a yearly projected budget of hearing assistive technology needs
- Perform classroom observations to aid in determining HAT needs of students
- Collaborate with campus speech-language pathologists, the use of sign language, and other factors affecting communication function for audiologic evaluation and/or initial identification of individuals with other communication disorders
- Assist in the planning of audiological goals at Admission, Review and Dismissal meetings when determined appropriate by the student's case manager
- Conduct in-service training for staff
- Collaborate with students, student parent(s)/guardian(s), case manager and student campus to maximize student auditory success
- Complete reports for assessment and evaluations performed
- Maintain proper documentation of services provided
- Adhere to best practices for all audiological services and Code of Ethics for Audiology (ASHA and AAA)
- Coordinate with district diagnosticians and D/HH on hearing assessments for FIEs and IEPs
- Attend continuing education seminars and trainings to maintain current knowledge regarding available technology and advancements in educational audiology
- Follows all the rules, regulations, and policies of DISD and follows directives from administrative staff.
- Observe in a professional manner regarding confidentiality with teachers, students, family members, and other service providers
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Participates in professional development, department meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Assist in the selection of technology, equipment, and materials appropriate for students with auditory impairments and effectively use technology and assistive devices to strengthen the teaching/learning process

- Provide regular consultative assistance and in-service training to campuses, itinerant staff, classroom teachers, and paraprofessionals serving students with auditory impairments.
- Initiate orders, inventory, store, and issue special materials and equipment for students with auditory impairments
- Use appropriate district-approved physical safety techniques, including restraint.
- Dress and shoes appropriate to job responsibilities.

SHARS/ MAC / RMTS:
Northwest ISD participates in the School Health and Related Services (SHARS) and MAC programs which allows our district to request Medicaid reimbursement for certain health-related services. The Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) committee determines SHARS services.
As a special education staff member, you will be required to train and bill for SHARS reimbursements for students on your caseload. Trainings will be provided for SHARS, for RMTS (Random Moment in Time Studies), where staff are chosen randomly to answer a few questions, and for MAC (Diagnosticians and non-Personal Care Providers only). Training will be provided at the beginning of each school year as well as on an “as needed” basis for new hires.

Position requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, overhead reaching, sitting, and keyboarding. Position requires the ability to lift 25 pounds to waist high.
