Northwest Iowa Community College is seeking a qualified Powerline Instructor to teach and mentor students in the Applied Technology division. The successful candidate will have a diploma or Associate of Applied Science degree from an accredited Powerline Program or completion of a formal Journeyman Lineman Program, as well as five years of related work experience in all phases of utility work. They will be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in electrical theory, transformers, safety, utility equipment operation, underground/overhead high voltage electrical systems, and line maintenance. A valid CDL license is required, with basic computer skills also necessary for this role. Preferred qualifications include recent work/industry experience in the electrical field, including job supervision or management, as well as bilingual language skills in English and Spanish. The instructor will conduct effective instruction in classroom theory and laboratory settings, using approved course outlines and developing current course syllabi/outlines. They will also measure and evaluate student progress, maintain accurate grade computations, and submit reports according to designated timelines. Additional responsibilities will include attending faculty and division meetings, serving on college committees, and participating in professional development activities. The position includes a 9-month teaching contract with a summer term supplemental contract, with opportunities for continuous employment and career growth.
