Primary Purpose
Under direct supervision of the AVID coordinator/teacher at each campus, tutors will perform the following tasks:

Primary Purpose
Under direct supervision of the AVID coordinator/teacher at each campus, tutors will perform the following tasks:
- Determine from student notes and discussions, the concepts that need to be taught or retaught.
- Evaluate student binders, including calendars, class and textbook notes, etc.
- Become familiar with the materials in the AVID Curriculum Libraries.
- Become familiar with the textbooks and materials used by AVID students.
- Conduct tutorial sessions in all areas of mathematics; therefore, a strong math background is mandatory.
- Conduct mini-lessons in the process of writing in all subject areas, study skills, and other aspects of college preparation.
- Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow.
- Work with students in any phase of the writing process, such as brainstorming, clustering, revision, and editing.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Participate in all required trainings, professional development sessions, and meetings; Attend required AVID Tutor Training
- Lead peer critique groups that underscore the principle of collaborative learning;
- Assist students in any subject area, by being familiar with students' textbooks and materials and AVID classroom resources;
- Teach mini-lessons;
- Assist in teaching study skills and other skills necessary for college preparation.
- Communicate regularly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern and confer with the teacher about future tutorial plans
- Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for all AVID students to follow
- Must have a strong math and English background, evidenced by college transcript.
- Effective communication skills with students and adults.
- Demonstrated reliability
- College student with a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. preferred
- Approximately 2-16 hours per week, Monday through Thursday, October - April; times to be scheduled
- Attend Tutor Training with additional tutor training update meetings scheduled throughout the year (approximately 6 hours total). Schedule of training provided in the Fall.
