Job Summary
The Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Diverse Education Specialist to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement academic remediation plans tailored to the unique needs of students with disabilities, enabling them to leverage their strengths and overcome weaknesses.
- Create individualized educational plans for students in accordance with IDEA guidelines, taking into account their learning styles and goals.
- Collaborate with general education classroom teachers to provide alternative teaching strategies and support, promoting inclusive learning environments.
- Provide informal or consultant roles as initial indirect services to general education classroom teachers, addressing student behavior and learning needs.
- Administer educational evaluations to determine students' academic strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles, identifying areas for improvement.
- Work closely with general classroom teachers to evaluate and observe students referred for special education services, considering all relevant factors.
- Implement diagnostic-prescriptive teaching methods to gather detailed information on students, informing the design of appropriate programs.
- Maintain accurate records related to instruction and monitoring of students, ensuring timely progress updates and modifications as needed.
- Regularly review student progress toward objectives, making adjustments to programs when necessary.
- Coordinate programs with community agencies when required, obtaining principal approval prior to implementation.
- Evaluate program effectiveness continuously, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to achieve better outcomes.
- Participate actively in in-service activities provided by the organization, staying updated on best practices and methodologies.
- Supervise paraprofessional and clerical personnel as directed by administration, ensuring efficient support systems.
Requirements
- Possess a minimum Kansas teaching endorsement in an area of special education or be able to obtain endorsement through a waiver.
- Hold a valid Kansas driver's license and maintain dependable transportation.

- Demonstrate manual dexterity to operate a computer, phone, and other equipment; see and read printed materials with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels; speak clearly; and exhibit physical agility to reach overhead.
- Ability to move between schools, school buildings, and multiple rooms.
- Capacity to interact with students, meeting their physical, emotional, and psychological needs.
