Junior High Assistant Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
- MA Required
- Iowa Certification with Administrative Endorsement and evaluator approval Additional preferences
- Administrative experience preferred.
- Meet NCA Guidelines for Junior/High Middle School Administration.
- Junior High/Middle School administration and/or teaching experience preferred.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Principal, Northwest Junior High School
SUPERVISES: Support Staff at the building level
JOB GOAL: Provides leadership and supervision in order to facilitate the educational program designed to maximize the academic and personal development of each student. To relieve the principal of those delegated areas related to school management and instruction which prevent him from fulfilling his chief responsibility of promoting the educational well-being of each student in the school.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school.
- Assist the principal in the supervision, evaluation and improvement of the instructional program and staff.
- Serves as the interim principal in the absence of the principal.
- Coordinates the school-wide discipline program and assists in maintaining appropriate student behavior at school and at school related activities.
- Serves with parent, faculty and student groups as requested in order to advance educational activities and objectives.
- Performs such record keeping and reporting functions as the principal may direct.
- Serves as the chair of designated building committees and coordinates committees' program.
- Assists the principal in the development of teacher and staff development activities.
- Assists with the administration of Special Education programs.
- Assist the principal in promoting a positive public image of the school within the community.
- Hires, supervises, evaluates and schedules para-educators.
- Assists the principal with staffing and scheduling of the professional staff.
- Assist the principal in providing leadership to department chairpersons and faculty in curriculum evaluation and development.
- Serve on the Executive Council Committee.
- Assists in the review and revision of all handbooks and documents.
- Serves as a building representative to appointed district committees.
- Assists in the supervision and evaluation of coaches, secretaries and other support personnel.
- Acts as the building coordinator for the activities program and magazine sale.
- Assists in planning and conducting safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
- Responsible for maintaining the school master calendar and schedules the use of school facilities.
- Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and works with the attendance secretary to investigate and follow up on student absenteeism.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-Month year. Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
