Instructional Coach - Secondary (6-8) with math focus
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Standard Iowa Teaching License.
- Five (5) or more years of teaching experience; one (1) year (three (3) years preferred) teaching in the District.
- Commitment to supporting the growth of others and the belief that adult learning is essential to student learning.
- Broad knowledge of curriculum and effective instruction including specific knowledge of NASOT, Iowa Teaching Standards and the Iowa Core.
- Experience designing, presenting and facilitating adult professional learning experiences for individuals, small groups and large groups (preferred).
- Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills including experience working collaboratively.
- Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills (preferred).
- Knowledge of Professional Learning Community and Multi-Tiered Support System process and protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to use data to make decisions about curriculum and instruction.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SUPERVISES: While the position does assist in the coordination of components of the Teacher Leadership Program, Instructional Coaches will not hire, supervise or evaluate teachers.
JOB GOALS:
- Partner with new-to-the-profession and experienced teachers, administrators and district teams to transform teaching and learning through reflective practices in order to create the best possible student experience for all children.
- Live and model the mission of the Teacher Leadership program: Teacher Leaders will maximize student achievement and outcomes by partnering with teachers to reflect on and increase effective teaching in every classroom, and implement a guaranteed and viable curriculum.
- Instructional coaches embody the belief that all teachers and students can become the best version of themselves.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the individual professional growth and reflective practice of teachers through 1:1 coaching, observing, co-teaching, modeling, and collaborating.
- Provide targeted support to new-to-the-profession teachers to grow their reflective practice with an emphasis on effective instruction, classroom management and assessment, and meeting the eight Iowa Teaching Standards.
- Support buildings, teams, and individuals in using data to reflect on teacher practice, student achievement, and progress towards goals.
- Partner with administrators to support teacher learning of and engagement in high quality, targeted, collaborative teams: using the PLC process, anchoring in student data, student achievement, and the professional learning needed to move forward.
- Partner with building-level leadership teams to implement high-quality teacher growth plans that align large group professional development and individual teacher growth with building and district goals.
- Partner with building leadership to ensure building systems that best support student learning and professional growth.
- Support individuals and groups in reflecting on how to integrate district goals and initiatives into their practice to achieve transformational student outcomes.
- Serve as a model of continuous growth, including participating in collaborative teams, 1:1 coaching, and professional development designed to support the IDS role.
- Maintain and share Teacher Leadership Program data to communicate the vision of the Teacher Leadership Program and alignment with building and District goals.
- Maintain confidentiality to support the nature of the coaching role; this position is non-evaluative in regard to teacher performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education. Contract Days: 186 Total Days (District teacher contract – 184 days, plus 2 additional days compensated with Flex Days). Salary: Placement on teacher salary schedule, plus a stipend that is 10% of the generator base salary.
EVALUATION: This position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the TLC program (including administrator evaluation and peer review). Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
