What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Education Coordinator position at Northwest Mississippi Community College?
As part of the Adult Education department, the position is charged with innovating and maintaining a system of support for new/employed instructors and staff in Adult Education. The position will assist with supporting all adult education instructors and staff - effectively and efficiently - and in turn all students; to work closely with instructors in incorporating College and Career Readiness Standards into the design of the lessons; work in expanding the interactivity of all teaching methodologies, and will assist in providing guidance for instructors that zero in on delivering effective, efficient, direct instruction with an emphasis on teaching higher order thinking skills. Responsibilities also include planning, coordinating, and providing professional development and mentoring/training new instructors in a manner that assures quality results. This is a professional, full-time position that will work closely with the Program Director and MCCB for Adult Education.
QUALIFICATIONS: (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required)
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution. Preferred degree in education or directly related field
- Extensive working knowledge of instructional strategies and teaching experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organizational and inter-personal skills
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for monitoring tables in the Adult Education database, LACES.
- Manages, troubleshoots, and provides support for AE instructors and staff in the development of strategies to improve instruction, including classroom management techniques, and serve as a resource person.
- Maintains confidentiality of records.
- Works collaboratively with the Program Director and MCCB in efforts to provide sufficient support for instructional training and professional development.
- Maintains a broad understanding of current and emerging instructional andragogy in adult education.
- Organizes and implements local staff development.
- Maintains supplies, inventory, and equipment.
- Works with the Program Director in the orientation of new teachers.
- Develops user manuals for local program.
- Aid in securing and implementing curriculum across the district.
- Recruitment and retention of AE students.
- Represents the agency through oral and written communications and reports.
- Assists with various grants and reports required for our program.
- Performs other duties as assigned as Director of Adult Education.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Experience using technology including email, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and Internet use.
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact tactfully and courteously with students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Ability to collaborate with others and work as part of a team.
- Demonstrate oral and written communication skills to interact with a wide range of diverse individuals.
