What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Aid Advisor position at Northwest Mississippi Community College?
The Financial Aid Advisor serves as the primary Financial Aid representative for Oxford, Batesville, and Water Valley campuses. Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assisting students in filing FAFSA, state aid, county aid, loan apps, and scholarship programs, Student Verification, Loans, and Veterans Affairs (VA) paperwork, and registration. This is 12-month staff position reporting to Student Services Manager.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s Degree required
- Prior experience in computer data entry
- Proficient with MS Office, especially Outlook, Word, Excel
- Prior experience operating office equipment in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Must be passionate about the Customer/Student Service experience
- Positive, approachable, collaborative personality
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred with previous financial aid experience; OR,
- Two years experience in financial aid, student counseling, or directly related experience
RESPONSIBILITIES (INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO):
- Serve as primary Financial Aid representative for Oxford, Batesville, and Water Valley campuses
- Assist students and prospective students in electronically filing FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), state aid, county aid, loan applications, and scholarship programs
- Report to the Campus Dean and Director of Financial Aid and assist in administering the total financial aid program
- Assist and counsel students with the completion of Student Verification, Loans, and Veterans Affairs (VA) paperwork
- Assist with student registration
- Assist the Recruiting Office with on-campus and off-campus recruiting events in the 11-county NWCC system (primarily Lafayette, Calhoun, Yalobusha, and Tallahatchie)
- Recruit participants and assist coordinators of the Work-Study Program
- Assist the financial aid office in awarding financial aid
- Award and Reconcile County Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)
- Work evening/weekend events as needed to accommodate students and their families
- Schedule one “late day” per week in coordination with the Oxford team to accommodate evening school and non-traditional students
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Student Services Manager and/or Director of Financial Aid or other college administrators

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to do the following:
