What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trio Student Tutor/Mentor position at Northwest Mississippi Community College?
QUALIFICATIONS: Peer Mentors are required to be in good academic standing, have successfully completed one semester of college, and demonstrate positive attributes and social skills. In addition, Peer Tutors are required to have a 3.00 or higher in tutored subjects and have a communicable understanding of specific course material.
RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- To offer instruction and assistance with course material as needed
- To consult with the Academic Coordinator to give and receive feedback concerning the academic progress of students in tutoring
- To be conscientious and sensitive to the needs of the participants
- To meet with participants on a regularly scheduled basis to offer peer support
- To assist the Academic Coach with monitoring participants’ progress
- To assist with informing participants of the services and activities offered by the project
- To assist with sorting and filing forms and documents
- To maintain confidentiality of participants information
- To assist with program events and activities when available
- To assist the professional staff with other duties as assigned
