The lactation consultant offers educational support before, during, and after childbirth in both clinic and hospital environments. They deliver breastfeeding care and guidance to nursing mothers, providing one-on-one assistance for inpatient lactating women, including those with premature or high-risk infants. The consultant also designs and conducts classes for expecting and nursing women and their families, serving as a resource and breastfeeding advocate within the community and among healthcare professionals. They actively participate in community outreach programs to gather relevant information. Meanwhile, the doula provides emotional and physical support to laboring patients and their families, acting as an advocate by helping to uphold birth plans and facilitating communication between patients and the clinical team. Additionally, the doula supports postpartum recovery with emotional encouragement and practical advice on newborn care and breastfeeding.
Requirements :
- Certification as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)
- Current BLS Certificate
- Able to communicate effectively In English, both verbally and in writing
- Certified Doula credentials from an accredited organization (eg, DONA International, CAPPA, or equivalent)
- Experience in a hospital or clinical setting preferred
- Knowledge of childbirth, breastfeeding, and newborn care best practices
