The position of Financial Aid Counselor supports the administration of NNU’s financial aid programs for undergraduate and/or graduate students. This position is responsible for providing counsel related to financial aid, and communicating complex information to students and their families. Financial Aid Counselors work closely with Admissions and Student Accounts through recruiting and retention.
Financial Aid Counselors report to the Director of Financial Aid. This position is a full-time, 12-month position.
Essential Functions
- Represent NNU with enthusiasm and professionalism to students, alumni, parents and other constituents
- Work closely with students and families to promote student recruitment, retention and promotion of programs
- Determine student financial aid offers based on computed financial need, federal, state, and institutional awarding policies
- Review detailed financial documents, including tax documents, for accuracy of reported financial information
- Apply professional judgment and knowledge of institutional and federal policies to determine the most appropriate and equitable decisions
- Review appeals when there are changes in student or family financial conditions or other relevant factors
- Review reports to identify changes or conflicting data in financial aid systems; make corrective adjustments and communicate changes to students
- Communicate complex financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures to students, families, donors, or other agencies in a clear, timely, and professional manner
- Comply with federal data-sharing regulations
- Contribute to solutions that may affect internal policy changes
- Provide leadership or support for collateral assignments
- Proven ability to be dependable, reliable and meet deadlines
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- An earned bachelor’s degree
- 2 years of experience working in Financial Aid or similar business, office manager or customer service focused role
- Proficient organizational skills & attention to detail
- Advanced analytical, quantitative, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Ability to collaborate well within a team environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable with virtual platforms

Preferred Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in Financial Aid

Salary will be determined by the background and experience of each applicant.
