The Intervention Specialist is responsible for supporting students with disabilities by acting as an advocate and working with general education teachers in the classroom instruction of students for their academic and personal growth. The Intervention Specialist will collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure that students are being given the accommodations outlined in their IEP and that the student is progressing. The Intervention Specialist will work directly with the school’s administrators to ensure that all Special Education paperwork and reporting requirements are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

· Creates and maintains a high quality learning environment with respect to the academic and personal needs of the child.

· Develops and implements classroom management strategies that respect the needs and development of the students and that ensures a positive, wonderful learning environment.

· Delivers instruction that is aligned to the NOCA curriculum.

· Participates in all professional development activities.

· Supports students’ growth academically as evidenced by increased scores, including state standardized tests and other academic testing.

· Implements teaching practices consistent with the school’s mission, philosophy, and virtues.

· Reads, understands, writes, implements, and maintains compliance of IEPs, ETRs, and 504 plans.

· Remains abreast of and monitor legal issues and requirements as they pertain to Special Education and related services.

· Works with the Principal to ensure all accommodations and supports in the IEPs are maintained for students with special needs.

· Collects behavioral data that shows progress on IEP goals/objectives.

· Collects functional behavioral data for FBAs, as directed by the Principal.

· Writes and facilitates FBA and BIP documents/meetings.

· Writes narrative IEP progress reports that shows growth though data points.

· Submits draft IEPs one week prior to first schedule IEP meeting, revise/resubmits as necessary.

· Schedules and facilitates IEP meetings that include participation from the entire IEP team.

· Provides inclusion services in the general education environment, including but not limited to team teaching, pull aside, strategic support, and small group testing.

· Provides testing accommodations on caseload as required by students IEPs.

· Modifies student work, as required by the IEP, for students in the general education environment.

· Assists in providing behavior remediation, in conjunction with the Principal and general education teachers.

· Works with building leaders to track suspensions, and proceed with manifestation procedures in conjunction with the Principal.

· Completes any other duties deemed necessary by the Principal for the success of the School.

Qualifications:

· Passion for the mission of NOCA and public education.

· A valid credential in Special Education and ODE Licensure.

· Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.

· Demonstrated ability to and experience in engaging the interest of school-age children.

· Demonstrated ability to work well with parents.

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and acts as a leader amongst teaching peers.

· Effective organizational skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks.

· Proven effective classroom instructional and management skills.

· Experience in and passion for creative lesson-planning and innovative teaching practices.

· Experience with and flexibility in various assessment strategies.

· An unwavering belief that students can achieve at an exceptionally high level.

· Willingness to go above and beyond to support students in achieving academic goals.

· Willingness to participate in ongoing documentation and reflection.

· Willingness to be held accountable for student results.

· Demonstrates a commitment to continued personal and professional growth, and a commitment to wonder, curiosity and a passion for lifelong learning.

· Self-motivated and confident in informed decision-making.

· Must clear a current background check through the BCI/FBI.

NOCA is Ohio’s first state-chartered, publicly-funded, independently-governed, tuition-free, classical school. It is a Hillsdale College Curriculum School. NOCA opened its doors in 2019, with 210 students in grades K-8, and has seen strong and steady growth. It now serves grades K-12 to over 600 students.
