Position Overview:
The School Nurse/Office Assistant is a dual-role position responsible for both managing the health of students and staff, as well as providing administrative support in the school office. This individual will administer first aid, manage health records, and support classroom health needs while also assisting with general office tasks, communication, and organization. The role is essential for maintaining the well-being of students and supporting the smooth operations of the school office.
Key Responsibilities
Nursing Responsibilities:
Health and Wellness Management:
- Provide daily health services to students and staff, including administering first aid, managing chronic conditions, and addressing minor injuries or illnesses.
- Conduct routine health screenings (vision, hearing, and other assessments) for students.
- Monitor and track student health records, including immunizations, allergies, and other medical conditions.
- Develop and implement individualized health plans (IHPs) for students with specific medical needs or chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, etc.).
Medical Records and Documentation:
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate medical records for all students, including immunization status, medical histories, and emergency contact information.
- Complete required reports for state, local, and federal health agencies.
- Track and manage students’ medication, ensuring proper storage, distribution, and documentation according to school policy and legal requirements.
- Emergency Care and Response:
- Respond to medical emergencies or injuries on campus, providing immediate care and determining when additional medical assistance is needed.
- Work with faculty and staff to establish and implement emergency protocols for health-related issues.
- Provide training to staff on first aid, CPR, and emergency response procedures.
- Health Education and Support:
- Educate students, faculty, and staff on health-related topics, such as hygiene, nutrition, illness prevention, and mental health awareness.
- Offer guidance on physical and mental health concerns and refer students to outside professionals when necessary.
Office Assistant Responsibilities:
- Administrative Support:
- Provide administrative assistance to the Operations Manager and school leadership team, including managing schedules, handling phone calls, and responding to emails.
- Assist in preparing and organizing school documents, newsletters, reports, and other communications.
- Manage office supplies and maintain a well-organized office environment.
- Student and Visitor Support:
- Greet visitors, students, and parents, providing assistance as needed and directing them to the appropriate personnel or resources.
- Manage student check-ins and check-outs, ensuring that all procedures are followed in accordance with school policy.
- Assist with maintaining accurate attendance records and student files.
- Communication and Coordination:
- Help facilitate communication between the school office, staff, students, and parents.
- Schedule meetings, events, and appointments as required by school leadership.
- Assist in preparing for school events, parent-teacher conferences, and other school-wide initiatives.
Record Keeping and Data Entry:
- Maintain and update student records, health documentation, and other school-related files.
- Ensure all health forms, parental consents, and emergency contact information are accurately entered and up to date.
Other Office Support:
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of school notices, newsletters, and other communications.
- Assist with organizing and managing school events, including coordinating logistics, preparing materials, and supporting faculty and staff.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager and school leadership team on any health-related or administrative concerns that may impact the school community.
- Assist with other tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager or administrative team.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a current Ohio nursing license (LPN candidates with appropriate experience may also be considered) or relevant nursing certification.
- Previous experience in a school or pediatric nursing setting preferred.
- Experience working in an administrative or office setting is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with students, staff, and parents in a professional manner.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and respect.
- CPR/First Aid certification required (or ability to obtain upon hiring).
- Ability to adapt to the demands of both the nursing and office assistant roles and maintain a positive, flexible attitude.
