Description
Role and Responsibilities
- Administer treatment (chemo/immunotherapies) drugs using optimal techniques per treatment guidelines and procedure.
- Follow all usual procedures for accessing treatment drugs through Nucleus.
- Enter in treatments on treatment log/acuity sheet.
- Participate in initial and ongoing patient education regarding all aspects of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
- Schedule patient appointments for treatments following guidelines, treatment/initials etc...
- Participate in open and closing procedures as assigned and to meet staffing needs.
- Acts as charge nurse if assigned to do so.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the nurse supervisor, Nurse Manager, Director of Clinical Operations, or physicians.
- Participate in weekend and holiday coverage (If needed)
- Follows all safety and OSHA guidelines for hazardous drugs.
- Partners with NWOH to create a safe and healthy workplace both physically and emotionally.
- Stays current with all annual testing required by Human Resources and the Laboratory Department.
- Maintains Chemotherapy & Immunotherapy certification without lapse
- Participates in the OCM pilot as required.
- May be asked to perform Medical Assistant duties as needed.
- Comply with the OSHA regulations
- Participate in the NWOH safety program
- Attend all mandatory trainings & complete quizzes as assigned.

- Laboratory responsibilities as follows:
- Follow all laboratory procedures for specimen collection and processing.
- Follow all established laboratory testing procedures.
- Follow all laboratory reporting policies
- Maintain records documenting that proficiency test samples were treated exactly as patient samples.
- Adhere to the laboratories quality control policies
- Document all quality control, environmental and function checks, and maintenance performed.
- Follow the laboratory’s policy if test systems are not within established levels of performance.
- Document all corrective actions taken.
- Identify problems that may adversely affect testing and either correct the problem or notify the director, technical supervisor or general supervisor.
- Complete all required laboratory training and competency offered by employer
- Laboratory Duties:
- Perform phlebotomy, and inform the patients of all specimen collection directions.
- Process specimens for testing and transport according to policy.
- Perform and document daily environmental, maintenance and function checks.
- Perform and document quality control each day on the tests performed prior to testing patient samples.
- Perform testing only when all established a laboratory performance criterion has been met.
- Perform the following tests according to the laboratory's established procedures:
- Complete Blood Count (CBC)
- Pro-time - Waived
- Glucose - Waived
- Occult Blood – Waived
- Urine Dipstick – Waived
- Test all proficiency testing samples as patient samples.
- Document all corrective actions taken.
- If unable to correct any problems alert the director, laboratory manager, site-supervisor.
- Disinfect the countertops daily.
- Ensure that all reports are seen by the ordering physician.
- Monitor the testing going to the reference lab for timely completion of all tests ordered.
