JOB SUMMARY :
Directly responsible to the principal for the general administration, supervisory, and curriculum improvement activities assigned to him / her. The Assistant Principal will assume control of the school in the absence of the principal, as designated by the principal. S / he will work collaboratively with the principal to carry out his / her responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Assists in the supervision and administration of scheduling, establishing of classes and working with the supervisor of data processing in the completion of the scheduling.
- Administers discipline involving student conferences, suspensions, and other corrective measures, including referrals to the guidance and pupil personnel office.
- Holds parent / guardian conferences concerning pupil conduct.
- Recommends policies concerning the code of conduct expected of the student body and implements regulations for control.
- Maintains adequate records of student attendance and discipline.
- Notifies parent / guardians of excessive absences and tardiest, confers with students and parent / guardians concerning attendance problems and takes appropriate counseling or referral action.
- Grants student permission to leave the building.
- Issues visitor's passes to all persons that have legitimate reason to be in the building.
- Supervises building and grounds and students during the school day and at any other time when school connected events are scheduled.
- Helps organize, maintain and supervise automobile registration, records, and the parking lot.
- Handles student problems of counseling nature referred by the nurse, counselors, and teachers.
- Serves as a liaison between the local school and guidance and pupil personnel office in referrals for case studies, individual testing, and psychiatric help.
- Works with the counselors in making necessary arrangements for administering the group testing program.
- Supervises activities related to student evaluation, school evaluation, school marks, and reports to parents / guardians.
- Works with teachers to promote a philosophy of evaluating student achievement and reporting to parents / guardians that is consistent with the principles of student growth and development.
- Supervises the administration of student activities, student organizations, special assemblies and extra-curricular events, exclusive of those assigned to other personnel.
- Supervises the management and control of students and adults in audience and spectator situations at all athletic events.
- Supervises ticket takers and ticket sales for events.
- Supervises the school athletic eligibility lists.
- Shares in the responsibilities of clarifying and implementing personnel policies, including the evaluation of teachers.
- Assists the others on the administrative staff in the establishment and operation of summer programs.
- Assists in the coordination and supervision of the student teacher program.
- Promotes the professional growth of members of the faculty.
- Supervises the maintenance of the school plant and campus.
- Conducts fire drills.
- Supervises locker assignments if applicable.
- Confers with teachers about classroom programs, provides proper textbooks, desk copies, manuals, and teacher aids.
- Maintains contact with curricular development and issues, in order to aid the principal with duties involving curriculum.
- Works on special committees and projects to improve and implement the school program.
- Assumes responsibility for the operation of the school in the absence of the principal.
- Assumes any additional duties assigned by the principal or District Administration.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, talk, listen, and respond.
