FTE : 0.50 or greater

Work Days : 192

THIS POSITION IS AVAILABLE TO WORK 0.50 FTE OR GREATER, UP TO 40 HOURS PER WEEK.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

The job of a teacher is to provide general education instruction to youth enrolled in a behavioral

self-contained program. This position will work collaboratively with special educators and mental

health professionals to provide a cohesive program for students who are unable to access the

educational program in a less restrictive environment due to their behavioral and emotional

needs.

The teacher facilitates student success in academic and interpersonal skills through

documenting teaching and student progress / activities / outcomes; addressing specific educational

needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback

to students, families, specialists, and administration regarding student progress, expectations,

and goals. The teacher will instruct and supervise a diverse group of students by establishing a

positive, respectful learning environment while promoting high standards of performance for all

students, regardless of their background and developmental levels.

QUALIFICATIONS : Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required :

1. Valid Oregon teacher's license with appropriate subject area endorsement

2. Familiarity with a variety of age appropriate instructional, assessment, and student

management strategies that reflect current research on best practices.

3. Knowledge of state and federal education laws and of student and staff rights

4. Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations

5. Ability to effectively manage and supervise students and their work

6. Ability to direct the work of other staff members

7. Prior experience working with students with behavioral needs preferred

8. Master's degree preferred

9. Bilingual and biliteracy skills preferred

10. Possession of CPR / First Aid certification preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES :

1. Knowledge of best practices in reducing disproportionality, disparities, and predictability

in student outcomes through work focused on supporting racially, linguistically and

economically diverse students and educators

2. Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collect, analyze and

interpret different types of student data, and to use information to inform instruction

3. Strong technical skills including use of presentation software, word processing, and the

ability to learn to use technology to innovate and improve instruction

4. Ability to work with minimal supervision, communicate clearly, and prioritize and manage multiple projects

5. Experience in the education of children who exhibit behavior and emotional disorders,

including effective strategies for managing behavior

6. Working knowledge and experience in development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP)

7. Observe laws, NWRESD policies and procedures, and professional standards for this position

8. Respect confidential information and the privacy of students, staff, and families

9. Collect, record, store, retrieve, assimilate, organize, and utilize information and records

electronically and by using traditional methods

10. Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position

11. Maintain personal appearance and hygiene appropriate to the position as defined by the NWRESD

12. Meet applicable physical ability / health and safety guidelines for the position

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Include the following. Performs some or all of the following

tasks. Other Duties may be assigned. The duties listed below are not inclusive, but

characteristic of the type and level of work assigned for this position.

A. Develop and deliver instruction to students in assigned curriculum area, using

self-designed and adopted curriculum aligned with Oregon state standards

B. Assess student progress regularly, keeping accurate records and providing progress

reports as required, and communicating with families as deemed necessary

C. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the

maturity and interest level of the students; develop rules of classroom behavior which

are taught and reinforced in a fair and just manner

D. Differentiate curriculum to meet the individual learning needs and interests of students

with a wide range of performance levels

E. Employ a variety of instructional techniques to meet the learning needs of a diverse

group of learners

F. Advise special educator in the development of IEP goals for each student that addresses

their needs comprehensively

G. Participate fully with other educational team members in the decisions regarding the

students in the program

H. Utilize appropriate strategies (behavioral and instructional), materials, and other

available resources that will assist the student to achieve instructional goals and

objectives, and also behavioral goals addressed in the IEP

I. Develop and maintain effective communication with team members, families, colleagues

and administrators

J. Participate in progress staffing's on identified students

K. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life

L. Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with staff and agency partners at all

organizational levels

M. Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing curriculum

N. Collaborates with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the

purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.

O. Meet performance standards for all licensed staff contained in the District's Evaluation

Handbook for Licensed Educators

P. Maintain regular and consistent attendance and punctuality

Q. Perform other job-related duties as delegated by the supervisor
