    Position Title: Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLP-A)
    Department: Special Student Services
    Location: St. Helens School District - McBride Elementary & Columbia Ciy Elementary
    Reports To: Program Coordinator
    FLSA Status: Exempt
    Compensation: Classified Salary Schedule, Range T
    FTE: 0.75 FTE - 6 hours per day - 190 day calendar

    General Description:
    In alignment with the NWRESD’s mission and as a contributing member of the educational team, the Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the development of student communication skills essential for academic and social success.

    Under the direction of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), the SLPA implements speech and language programs and services tailored to students’ individual needs. The SLPA provides direct support to students with a broad range of communication disorders, including difficulties related to language, articulation (speech sound disorders), fluency, voice/resonance, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). All services are delivered in accordance with the supervising SLP’s guidance and within the scope of practice defined by the SLPA license.

    Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required:

    1. Associate’s degree from an SLPA program or completion of college-level coursework meeting state licensure requirements
    2. Experience working with children in an educational or clinical setting
    3. Current licensure through the Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology
    4. Valid driver’s license, vehicle available for use on the job, and accompanying automobile

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

    1. Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias
    2. Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations
    3. Confer regularly with immediate supervisor
    4. Proficient in the use of computers and internet-based applications, including but not limited to email, internet software, Google Suite, and word processing (MS Word)
    5. Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred

    Essential Functions: include the following. Performs some or all of the following tasks. Other
    duties may be assigned.

    A. Provide direct treatment assistance to students as directed by the supervising SLP.
    B. Follow documented therapy plans and instructional strategies developed by the SLP that is appropriate to the age and learning needs of individual students and is selected through an evidence-based decision-making process in accordance with the IEP/IFSP documentation
    C. Demonstrate awareness, knowledge, and sensitivity in the area of language acquisition with linguistically and/or culturally diverse populations
    D. Implement a continuum of service delivery models in the least restrictive environment for students with disabilities and implement a variety of service delivery models, including pull-out and in-class supports.
    E. Address social, academic, and vocational needs that have an impact on attainment of educational goals
    F. Support the use and maintenance of AAC devices and technology.
    G. Support scheduling and maintain appropriate records and data (if applicable, including Medicaid billing).
    H. Assist with screening procedures to identify students with potential speech-language needs, including hearing screening.
    I. Provide direct intervention assistance to students as identified by the supervising SLP by following IEP or protocols developed by the supervising SLP, excluding feeding/swallowing
    J. Document student progress, without interpretation of findings, toward meeting established objectives as stated in the IFSP/IEP and report this information to the supervising SLP. Review and summarize student performance according to the protocol prescribed by the SLP at the end of each session.
    K. Assists the SLP with informal documentation during an intervention session (collecting andtallying data as directed by the SLP), prepares materials and assists with other clerical duties as specified by the supervising SLP
