Job Summary
The Peer Navigator will serve as a guide and support for job seekers, including individuals with disabilities, and workforce program participants. This role focuses on helping individuals navigate workforce programs, access resources, and build confidence to achieve their employment and career goals while fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one guidance to individuals, including those with disabilities, as they navigate workforce services and programs.
- Share personal experiences and insights to inspire and support participants in overcoming challenges related to employment.
- Assist individuals in understanding and accessing job search tools, career development resources, and training opportunities.
- Guide participants through resume building, job applications, and interview preparation, including understanding accommodations and self-advocacy.
- Collaborate with workforce staff to ensure participants receive tailored support and connect them with additional community or disability-specific resources.
- Maintain accurate records of participant interactions and provide feedback on potential service improvements.
- Promote an inclusive, welcoming, and accessible environment that empowers individuals to succeed in their career journeys.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- Associates / Bachelor in Communications or related field preferred but not required.
Experience:
- Personal experience navigating workforce programs or employment as an individual with a disability is highly preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse individuals.
- Empathy, understanding, and a commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities.
- Basic knowledge of job search strategies, workforce resources, and workplace accommodations.
- A willingness to learn and stay updated on workforce development programs and disability-related services.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in case management
Skills:
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiar with the critical barriers that impact a person’s ability to work and the programs that are designed to help them.
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas and give presentations in a public setting.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
- Work within one building, frequently traveling outside on business and performing outreach.
Working Conditions
- Office environment with occasional travel to service sites and community events.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as requested.
