JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the supervision and management of all daily operations of the classroom of the Alternative to Out of School Suspension Classroom.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Additional duties may be assigned.

  • Implement alternative to out of school suspension program.
  • Ensure that each assurance of the safe schools grant is followed.
  • Maintain attendance records of students.
  • Utilize effective instructional techniques.
  • Utilize effective behavioral management techniques.
  • Maintain daily behavioral log on each student.
  • Maintain communication with home building administrator and/or staff concerning student progress.
  • Establish and promote communication with parent(s) and/or guardian.
  • Communicate student program information with Coordinator of Intervention
  • Abide by all applicable board policies.
  • Assist in maintenance of the computer network.
  • Assist in development of annual report on program.
  • Assist in the development of additional grants.
  • Communicate facilities/technical/student issues with Coordinator of Intervention
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Identifies pupil needs in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Appropriate Missouri Teacher Certification or eligible for Provisional Certificate (Secondary Certification preferred).

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, and interact effectively with all aspects of the school community is required.
  • Ability to solve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and remain open to various ideas and viewpoints.

MATHMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to use and teach mathematics commensurate with assigned position.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while complying with established policies and procedures of the building and district.
  • Identifies and resolve problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Ability to concentrate, think, read and learn is necessary to perform the essential job duties.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have a physical exam and TB test prior to first day of work at the employer’s expense.
  • Demonstrate organizational ability and attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide assistance to the school community as necessary.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent human relation skills.
  • Knowledge of office equipment (computers, copiers, fax machine, and related items).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, talk, listen, and respond. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee will regularly stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors. Occasionally, the employee may lift up to 50 pounds, such as, to lift files, papers, and equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually at a moderate to loud level with frequent interruptions. The employee continuously interacts with students, staff and the public.
