JOB SUMMARY:

To create a flexible, instructional program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth for students at the pre-school level utilizing the MPP model.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Normal classroom teacher duties related to instruction, classroom management, interpersonal relationships, and professional responsibilities as outlined in the Performance Based Teacher Evaluation system.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as determined by the state and District: 1) Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) required sessions for the Missouri Preschool project; 2) a minimum of 12 hours of in-service, workshops, or college level coursework annually for licensing; and 3) Northwest R-I School District training.
  • Complete assessment instruments as provided by DESE for each child enrolled in the preschool program.
  • Maintain records through systematic observations to assess each child’s development.
  • Distribute and collect enrollment forms, health records, and other documentation as required by the District, DESE, and the Bureau of Childcare/Department of Health.
  • Design daily learning activities that follow the Project Construct approach to teaching.
  • Provide individualized attention with developmentally appropriate activities designed to meet each child’s needs. The focus will be on language, social, cognitive, and motor development.
  • Coordinate classroom learning activities with the teacher assistant(s) clearly explaining the objectives and activities.
  • Encourage parent participation through close communication with parents. Regular discussion with parents related to their child’s experiences will be essential.
  • Develop newsletters to families that outline the learning activities planned for the week.
  • Provide regular written reports to parents on the successes of their child and describe the nature of the growth and development that has occurred.
  • Maintain a safe and secure classroom and outdoor play area at all times.
  • Learn all safety procedures for building drills and follow all procedures to maintain highest level of hygiene and personal safety for the children and staff.
  • Additional duties as may be assigned.


QUILIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Early Childhood Teacher Certification (EC), or Early Childhood Special Education Teacher Certificate (ECSE), or Four-year degree in Child Development with preference given to certified candidates.
  • Two or more years of experience as a teacher in an early childhood classroom using Project Construct is highly preferred.
  • Modifications to the above may be made based on experience and other related factors.


COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical manuals, government regulations and other related information.
  • Ability to write reports, correspondence and other related information consistent with the duties of this position.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from all stakeholders.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages as related to the duties of this position.
  • Ability to incorporate appropriate mathematical concepts into the instructional program related to the students assigned and duties of this position.


REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule form.


OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of current regulations related to pre-school programs.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current educational trends and research into the instructional program.
  • Ability to implement lessons in accordance with State and District objectives based on the needs and abilities of the students assigned to the classroom.
  • Ability to perform all duties in accordance with District requirements and Board of Education policies.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, stand, talk, listen, respond and interact with pre-school students. The employee frequently is required to walk and use fingers, tools, and/or various controls. The employee must occasionally stand and reach with arms and hands. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision to read various materials, work with students and may also utilize depth perception. Occasionally, the employee will lift up to 30 pounds or more, such as, to lift files, papers and equipment related to the duties of this position. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and/or work output of other people and must follow proper safety procedures at all times.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties of this job. The noise level in the work environment may vary from quiet to noisy depending on the instructional activities occurring. Frequent interruptions may also occur during the work day. Duties will be performed both inside and outside. The position requires the employee to meet multiple demands and interact effectively with all stakeholders. Travel may occasionally be required for training purposes or to other District buildings and/or sites.
