Position Overview:
The Production Designer designs and prepares concepts along with complete production packages for electrical and non-electrical signage including exterior signage, interior signage, channel letters, wayfinding, environmental graphics, monuments and other forms of visual art and custom displays. This individual is a self-starter, capable of delivering brilliant creative ideas, and shows amazing attention to detail. The Production Designer prepares sign designs from information provided by our sales team, project managers, and clients. That information may come from client supplied ideas, a sign program, or the designer may be requested to provide an original design that aesthetically meets the client’s needs. Sign Design requires the effective use of typography, graphics, color, and space that is balanced and visually pleasing. The complexity of the designs varies which requires flexibility in adapting to each individual project.

This position works with members of the design department, sales, sales support, project management, fabrication, and others to complete the vision and mission of the company as well as provide outstanding customer service. Responsibilities:
1. Work with a design team to design concepts for electrical and non-electrical signage including exterior signage, interior signage, channel letters, wayfinding, environmental graphics, monuments and other forms of visual art and custom displays.
2. Collaborate with and support the Lead Designer and engineering, concept designers, project managers, and salespeople.
3. Prepare concepts using Adobe Illustrator and other Adobe Creative Suite applications.
4. Coordinate with the engineering team on a as needed basis to develop design intent and production drawings.
5. Prepare final documentation and production-ready artwork for a variety of applications.
6. Complete ADA programming and sign schedules
7. Use of ERP system for a variety of daily tasks, project management and time tracking.
8. Reviewing final layouts and suggest improvements when necessary.
9. Work with detailed wayfinding projects of all sizes including wayfinding schedules and programming
10. Be accountable to team, budget, and schedule while upholding the highest design standards.
11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Required qualifications:
- 2 years of professional experience in environmental graphic design, signage design, wayfinding or similar studio experience
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills that work well in an interdisciplinary, fast-paced environment
- Strong presentation skills; writing skills a definite advantage
- Experience with planning, documentation, and management of environmental graphics, wayfinding and signage projects
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and MS Office
- Familiarity with architectural construction documents, scales, sections, plans, and elevations; proficiency in drawing in scale
- Qualified knowledge of ADA sign code
- Knowledge of sign fabrication methods and materials
- Experience with wayfinding programming and scheduling
Desired Education/Training:
- Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, environmental graphics, architecture, visual communication, or related field is desired
- Proven experience, work history, and portfolio work may be substituted for education on a case-by-case basis.
Experience:
- Sign design, wayfinding, environmental graphics, and other high-end visual arts
- Computer-aided design
- Color, layout, fonts, and other forms of graphic design
Environment and/or Physical Factors:
- Professional office setting
- Routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, digital cameras, etc.
- The employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time
- May be required to attend staff meetings
Desired Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Sketch-up, Revit, or other 3D modeling and rendering software
- Knowledge of Solidworks preferred
- Knowledge of electrical signage design and fabrication
- Knowledge of LED lighting
Portfolio:
- A personal portfolio that contains examples of fully developed projects and concepts is required in print or digital format.
