What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specialty Instructor - Swim Instructor position at Northwest Special Recreation Association?
Becoming a SPECIALTY INSTRUCTOR in NWSRA's weekly programs is a great way to give back to the community and inspire participants to grow, learn and have fun.
As a Specialty Instructor you will be responsible for the tasks listed below.
Specialty Instructors will be expected to be present at every program each week of the program season for instruction and or demonstration. Instructors must work with participants on various skill levels. Instructors need to wear professional attire appropriate for their specific class format and are expected to have a plan for each lesson specialized for each participant.
- Instruct and organize recreation activities for participants in the area of specialization.
- Teach once or twice per week according to the program schedule
- Attend occasional mandatory meetings
- Implement program lessons and adapt programs as needed.
- Supervise and encourage individuals with disabilities in recreation programs.
- Ensure the safety and involvement of participants in activities.
- Promote good relations with participants, guardians, coworkers, park district employees and community contacts.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
Experience and Abilities
- Willingness to help teach and work cooperatively with all students.
- Experience teaching individuals in the following:
- Swimming

All positions are part-time and work schedules may range from a minimum of 1 hour per week up to 25 hours per week. Scheduling is assigned at the beginning of each program season, yet hours are flexible and can be adjusted per season. Reliable transportation is required to ensure attendance at all scheduled programs. When committing to work in a program you must be able to work all program dates for the entire season.
