What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Teacher position at Northwest Tennessee Head Start/EHS?
Purpose Statement: The Assistant Teacher supports the classroom teacher to provide a safe, appropriate, and nurturing environment for children that meets all DHS and Head Start standards and regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work with teacher as a team to have a positive impact on child outcomes and establishing a calm and nurturing classroom through planning, positive communication, mutual respect, and openness to receiving feedback.
2. Establish positive productive relationships with children and families; encourage parent involvement in the program and supportfamily
relationships.
3. Promote safety practices using Active Supervision indoors and outdoors.
4. Use a variety of positive guidance such as redirection, positive statements, positive classroom/playground rules, stories, pictures, and role-plays to help children control negative behaviors.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of The Creative Curriculum and implementing to fidelity in the learning environment, including activities from Teaching Strategies GOLD.
6. Demonstrate competence and assist in utilizing the Teaching Strategies Gold to fidelity, documenting observations, and giving feedback to the teacher while assisting children with support in each CLASS domain and dimension.
7. Help maintain orderly arrangement of room, teaching materials, and supplies, and assist in preparation of room and materials for daily activities.
8. Promote positive health and nutrition practices including cleanliness.
9. Ensure family style meals are served in a pleasant and positive social environment.
10. Help keep the playground clean and free of hazardous materials and conditions.
11. Assist teacher with visit in the home of Head Start parents at least twice per year and assist in conducting parent/teacher conferences at the center.
12. Participate in staff meetings, in-service training, and staff development programs.
13. Obtain Child Development Associate (CDA) and AAS/ECE when funds are available.
14. Serve as a teacher in the absence of regular teacher.
15. Demonstrate competence and understanding of the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and the School Readiness Goals of the program.
16. Assist in maintaining all Head Start Performance Standards.
17. Serve as Bus Monitor as needed ensuring all transportation procedures are followed.
18. Obtain the required Department of Human Services training hours.
19. Preserve the confidentiality and integrity of all program information.
20. Attendance is an essential function of your day-to-day responsibility and commitment to the program.
21. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor as this job description is in no way intended to include all responsibilities of the position, but rather to provide a general overview of what is expected of the position holder.
