Summary

Promote and ensure that all jobs shipped meet print and CAD model specifications, job traveler requirements, as well as Customer and/or industry standards.  Also, by example, promote that NWT’s product is the supporting documentation (inspection report, CMM report, material certification, etc.) in addition to the machined parts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

PRIMARY INSPECTION DUTIES

·         Inspect finished parts to determine if customer specifications have been met, including dimensions, part geometry, hardness, surface              finish, quantity, etc.

·         Inspect parts in-process, such as first article or last article, to determine if particular machining operation is yielding conforming parts.

·         Select the correct device for ensuring accurate measurements based on the precision of the device: caliper, micrometer, or CMM, for              example.

·         Sign-off on Quality Verification Records (QVRs) for each job handled for in-process and final inspection.  For aerospace and medical               jobs, sign-off on NWT process sheets.  For customer-provided QA report templates, ensure the appropriate form is completed and                   returned to the customer.

·         Per Northwest Tool and Customer requirements, generate written Quality Assurance reports for jobs.  Print-out CMM inspection                      reports if required for the job.

·         As required or delegated by supervision/management, contact Customers on the telephone to discuss quality issues or questions.

·         Assist toolmakers with the inspection of set-ups or jobs in progress.

·         Perform regular calibration verification of company-owned and employee-owned hand-held measuring devices.  Keep log up to date.

·         Ensure the calibrations of company-owned and employee-owned measuring devices are performed or verified per the schedule of                  NWT’s Quality Management System.

·         Assist in the implementation and maintenance of NWT’s ISO-certified quality management system where appropriate and necessary.

·         Follow priority system in place for order of job inspections. Supervision/mgt. may supersede the order with rush or ‘machine down’                  jobs to better service a Customer, requiring a fast pivot from one job to another.

·         Log labor time on jobs into ERP system throughout the work day to accurately account for inspection costs.

·         Maintain the integrity of the QA laboratory, including following guidelines for temperature control, cleanliness/organization of inspection            equipment, and doors closed to keep out shop dust.

SECONDARY

·         Meet with Customers on-site or off-site to discuss part quality issues as necessary.

·         If needed, assist with the completion of jobs to help cover for when co-workers are on vacation or to help work through a bottleneck:                assist with part deburring or part cleaning; assist with part packaging for shipment; assist with any required paperwork that is required           documentation for an order.

QUALIFICATIONS

·      Experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably with small lot production and toolmaking operations.

·      Ability to properly operate hand-held measuring devices, such as micrometers, calipers, depth mics, bore gages, etc, and accurately               measure within .0001” when required.

·      Ability to program a CMM using PC-DMIS software or CMM Manager software.

·      Ability to calibrate and properly maintain hand-held measuring devices.

·      Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

·      Ability to support NWT’s manufacturing team to ship jobs on-time and to promote 100% machined parts conformance
