Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Special Education is responsible to the Assistant Executive Director and the Director of Early Intervention for the provision of leadership in planning, developing, and implementing programs and services within the Intermediate Unit.
Pay/Benefit Details:
- The initial salary for this position is $90,000 (prorated for the 2024-2025 school year)
- 260 Day Work Year
- 15 PAID holidays
- 25 Vacation Days, 5 Personal Days, 13 Sick Days, 2 Mental Health Days per fiscal year. (prorated for the 2024-2025 school year)
- Full medical dental and vision benefits are effective the first day of employment with a monthly premium share of only $75.
- Requires a minimum contribution of 7.5% by the employee to the PSERS retirement system (unless you were enrolled in PSERS prior to July 1, 2019).
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Pennsylvania Administrative certificate
- 3-5 years in a supervisory role
- Experience in Early Intervention programming and/or provision of services in Early Childhood Education environments
- Experience in Chapter 14 regulations and best practices
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provides supervision of Early Intervention and School Aged Special Education staff
- Assists in the preparation and oversight of the annual budgets for Early Intervention and Special Education
- Assist district personnel to plan, budget, initiate, and operate IU or district Special Education programs and services
- Lead in the coordination of IU professional development of all Early Intervention and Special Education initiatives
- Plan research-based programs and services for the emerging needs of learners while making recommendations regarding staff positions and performance within Special Education and Early Intervention
- Assist in the development of in-service programs for school district and IU personnel about the education of exceptional children
- Assist in completing reports required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Bureau of Special Education (BSE), Bureau of Early Intervention Services (BEIS) and the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL) pertaining to exceptional children within the IU service area
- Serves as liaison with state and federal government agencies
- Lead and supervise the IU Transportation processes
- Oversight of mental health programming initiatives
- Oversight and supervision of Infant Toddler Early Intervention services
- Assistance with management of the ELECT program
- Travel to and attendance at various state meetings
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Special Education and the Director of Early Intervention to ensure compliant operations of all programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. Incumbent must be able to sit at desk for extended periods of time. This role routinely uses standard office equipment with a vast majority of the time utilizing computers to complete daily tasks. Due to travel outside of the home office, candidates are required to have a vehicle and valid driver's license to attend job related duties, meetings, seminars, and trainings.
