What are the responsibilities and job description for the Stormwater Engineer position at Northwest Watersheds?
Our small firm, Northwest Watersheds LLC, is growing! We are a Portland-based, woman-owned business focused on water resources engineering. Our services focus on:
- Stormwater design and planning
- Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
- Stream restoration planning and design
- Fish passage structure design
This position will be 24- to 40 hours/week (at candidate’s preference), and will be a hybrid position, with two days in the office. Our ideal candidate will have experience developing plans, specifications and estimates for stormwater projects.
Position Summary
We will consider candidates at the Civil Engineer 2 or Civil Engineer 3 labor classification.
- A Civil Engineer 2 will have 3 years of experience and be an engineer in training (EIT). This position will support technical design including plan production in AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation, technical reports; GIS, hydrologic/hydraulic calculations, analysis, and modeling; and field investigations and data collection.
- A Civil Engineer 3 will have 4 to 10 years of experience and be a licensed professional engineer. This position will lead stormwater designs, including plan production in AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation, technical reports; hydrologic/hydraulic calculations, analysis, and modeling; and field investigations and data collection.
CIVIL ENGINEER 2
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Support development of project deliverables (plans, specifications, and estimates for design projects; technical reports).
- Conduct H&H modeling and prepare technical reports
- Support our firm’s business development efforts by supporting proposal efforts, maintaining relationships and ongoing communication with clients, and being active in local and national professional organizations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in stormwater design and engineering.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience with a variety of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling platforms.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Strong computer skills, with solid working knowledge of MS Office Software packages, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
CIVIL ENGINEER 3
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead development of project deliverables (plans, specifications, and estimates for design projects; technical reports).
- Support our firm’s business development efforts by leading and supporting proposal efforts, maintaining relationships and ongoing communication with clients, and being active in local and national professional organizations.
- Supervise and mentor junior staff.
- Lead H&H modeling and prepare technical reports.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in stormwater design and engineering.
- Registered professional engineer.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience with a variety of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling platforms.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Strong computer skills, with solid working knowledge of MS Office Software packages, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Desired Civil Engineer 2 and Civil Engineer 3 Qualifications
· Current driver’s license and a good driving record.
· Proficient in MicroStation and InRoads.
· Experience with City of Portland design standards.
· WSDOT Highway Runoff Manual training and experience with WSDOT stormwater design standards.
· Experience preparing construction cost estimates.
· Construction oversight experience.
· Field data collection for stormwater design and planning projects.
· Involvement in professional and nonprofit organizations related to the field.
· Strong contacts with local clients and teaming partners.

Civil Engineer 2 Position offers three weeks of paid time off.
Civil Engineer 3 Position offers four weeks of paid time off.
Position offers a 401K retirement plan, with employer match of 6%.
Civil Engineer 2 Salary $38 to $43/hour, depending on experience.
Civil Engineer 3 Salary $43 to $52/hour, depending on experience.
